I hate the Flames but I love Iginla. I've always said I think he's probably the best current captain in the league.

So now we know Sundin won't start camp at all, hopefully things can move forward now and we get that centre we desperately need!

Originally Posted by Gt-R R34 Am I the only one, that think the canucks is backtracking? | IMO on paper they are no worse off in most areas better in some areas and still have 11 million in cap space. Naslund/Demitra is a wash. Morrison/Bernier is also a close wash. Linden is a big leadership loss lets hope players like Kesler and the Sedins can step up and help. Shannon gone will mean more ice time for Raymund so whatever no big loss. Isbister was useless although losing Miller they lose a little depth on the back end.
They add in Hordichuk who makes them way tougher, Bernier who may or may not be what the Sedins need but he has potential for sure. Johnson is a puck magnet who will block tons of shots and adds a bit of size. If that fatass Wellwood could get in shape he could be decent but he is known for being lazy so who knows?
Overall I don't think they are worse, they are tougher and younger IMO. There seems to be room for some young guys to get some time on a scoring line which is a good thing for development and they still have all that cap space if a trade comes along. Last year had a bad ending but before that horrible skid at the end we were in a good spot to win the division in spite of all the injuries all year long.
Out:
Naslund
Morrison
Linden
Shannon
Isbister
Miller
Richie
In:
Demetra
Bernier
Wellwood
Hordichuk
Johnson
Davison
Baumgartner

Whether Sundin comes or not, I don't think it matters too much to the Canucks at this point. It's almost too late for them to start going after another big name forward unless that's via a trade. Looks to me that Gillis didn't have a Plan B so they're better off concentrating on what they have going into training camp than to be distracted with the whole Sundin saga.

Sundin narrows it down to two teams
The microscopic chances of Mats Sundin coming to play in Vancouver were further reduced in size on Friday when the free agent centre met with the Toronto Maple Leafs brass and his agent said the 37-year-old Swede would only play for the Leafs or one other NHL team.
Website tsn.ca, which reported the story, said that, according to sources, the other team is the Montreal Canadiens.
According to the website, Sundin and his agents - J.P. Barry and Claes Elefalk - met with Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher. Joe Nieuwendyk, recently hired as Fletcher's assistant, was also present.
It was a very relaxed meeting," said Barry on AM640 Radio in Toronto. "It was a chance to reconnect since Mats was in town and talk about the changes on the Maple Leafs and make sure Mats was aware of everything that was going on with the team."
TSN sources say Sundin is also expected to meet or speak with the Montreal Canadiens before returning to Europe on Monday.
Sundin is in Toronto for the Festival Cup charity hockey game at Air Canada Centre.
Barry told radio station AM640 in Toronto that the decision was down to Toronto and another team.
"That's the way he's always felt," Barry told AM640.
Besides the Vancouver Canucks, which have a two-year, $20 million offer on the table to the longtime Maple Leafs captain, Sundin has been courted by Torono, Montreal and the New York Rangers.

what exactly is a "shootout specialist" ?
besides linden who all he did was shoot, imo there is no such thing, the leagues best snipers get shutdown consistantly in the SO so imo it pretty much comes down to hot streaks and a little innovation
im sure somone will step into the roll this season

Basically someone that you can rely on to score in the shootout.
Unrelated to their actual ingame performance. For example, if Naslund took the shootout, most people would hope he will score, but most often, he doesn't.
When Linden or Morrison's up, most expect them to score, and they do, most of the time.
In most shootouts, Linden and Morrison was sent out if they weren't healthy scratched and injured (respectively), while no other players on the team were consistent enough to be put out every shootout oppurtunity, so AV had to juggle between players. But I do recall this one incident where Linden was not sent out in the shootout and Canucks lost, and lots of fans were upset about AV's decision on that one.

If I recall correctly, Demitra was pretty good in the shootouts last year.

I say raymond should be a good pick for s/o this yr!
Sundin would prob get boo'ed like no tmr in Vancouver if he plays for any team.
