Wellwood for 1M is a good signing, I mean it can't be worse than the Chouinard signing two seasons ago.

I bet Gillis is regretting ripping into Nonis and promising big changes on his first press conference.
Now he knows how hard it is.

the thing is. sundin for 2 years at 10 mil
is a short term thing, and u get a good player.
so ur not locked in for a long period.
With HOSSA. your locked in for a minimum of 6 years at a huge salary.
and lou is Free agent in 2 seasons, so cap wise
it may be a "Good" move.

Sundin will also be 38 next season. He's also not sure if he wants to play - which may affect his play next season.
If Sundin accepts...Naslund will probably be back.

Only reason I see Gillis offering Sundin that much is because Hossa rejected him

While Mats Sundin has yet to make a decision on his playing future, sources are telling Sportsnet that the Vancouver Canucks have offered the Swedish centre a deal of $20 million over two years. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/...anucks_sundin/
While Mats Sundin has yet to make a decision on his playing future, sources are telling Sportsnet that the Vancouver Canucks have offered the Swedish centre a deal of $20 million over two years.
Sundin, who became an unrestricted free agent for the the first time in his career on Tuesday, has several offers on the table, Sportsnet has learned. Teams that also remain in the hunt for Sundin's services are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers.
"Mats has made no decision on whether he will play next year," agent J.P. Barry said last night. "He needs more time to decide if he will play or not.
Sundin could walk away from the Maple Leafs as the team's all-time leading scorer and the team would have nothing to show for him.

The reason why Hossa doesnt want to resign with the penguins is cause he doesnt like playing under Therien. What other big ticket players are left?? Hossa and Campbell are the only real players that somewat deserve the money is being thrown at them. Do we really want an overpriced young player that may or may not deliver? Cause this is the season where we need to win. Sedins wont be playing for peanuts anymore, Loungo may not be back, Kelser and Burrows will want much more money.
Honestly if we cant get a couple big name players, lets roll the dice and Bring back the WCE. We can get a whole line for the price of a Hossa. They all can still play, they still put up decent #'s, and they will all take a paycut. Worst case scenario.... they put up 2nd line type #'s which every1 aspects them to do and that nesecarilly isnt a bad thing. Best case scenario, they're back to the way they were and anything even remotely close to that would still be awesome.
Sign Demitra to play with the Sedins and we got 3 really great solid lines this upcoming season. If anything WCE will have all the room in the world since the opposing teams checking line will be checking the Sedins. or Vice-versa
