sedins are like 20th in scoring in the nhl
doesn't sound like 2nd line players to me
why not put them in the 3rd line, theyd be great 3rd liners too right?

If that was over and done with then maybe it would be different but as is no way they'd bring here.

^ bingo. Too much history. No way he would ever come back either.
I hope for Calgary's sake, that Bertuzzi doesn't turn out to be a locker room cancer. Hopefully Iginla and Bertuzzi get along.
Although in the long run, I have total faith that Keenan will find a way to destroy their team.

Kev | Apparently Jerome is the one that convinced him to come there. They played together on Team Canada as well. If his back holds out he'll have a good season otherwise it will probably be more of the same as the last couple years. For the money it's a good gamble for the Flames IMO.

its not there anymore | They were taken down when TSN.ca launched their new website. Probably too much work to maintain it every season but they were fun to read. Sportsnet.ca still has them though.

We're officially the weakest team in the NW and maybe in the West. Gillis needs to pull out all the stops and sign us an offensive spark or we're done.

i know a lot of people are adamant on their belief that taking a step back isn't in our best interest and theres no point speculating about what could have been, but it's still fun! sooo..imagine if we managed to sign sundin and the wce! we probably couldve gotten both for 17.5 which is around our budget! and i'm surprised it wasn't mentioned yet, but doesn't anyone else think nonis had some trades in the works before or after our contracts expired? nobody gave him the chance to go through with them!

unless Sundin comes there are no players who will come here that will have a big enough impact to make us a contender, other teams around us have gotten too good a mediocre first line player isnt going to push us over the top, especially somone coming in here with no leadership qualities [which is all thats pretty much left]
All this talk about "top 6 forwards" really, where do these "top 6" forwards come from to begin with? from the lower ranks and moving up through the system.

The Sedins are not 1st line players, they are not future hall of famers, they are not superstars. They are simply 2 good players that are a tad away from being awesome. | Top line players are almost always goal scorers. That is generally their primary role. The Sedins have finished from 20-30 in the league in scoring the past 2 seasons. 30 teams, times 3 first liners on each team = 90 so called "first line" players in the league. They're in the top third of that group, and yet you still say theyre not true top line players? Not every team can have Zetterberg/Datsyuk, or Naslund/Bertuzzi Lemieux/Jagr in their primes, ie. two players in the top ~5 in the league.
The Sedins are above average first liners, plain and simple.

I believe Nonis firing was a bit rushed. That being said, there is no guarantee he would have done better. With the exception that Fabian Brunstrom would be a Canuck now, who at the moment is still unproven anyway. Personally, I would of liked to see him stay at least until the end of summer to see what he had in store. Especially when I compare with what Canucks have now, I don't think Nonis could of done any worse than Gillis (while not saying Nonis was guaranteed to do any better, but just not any worse).
I also believe bringing back the WCE wouldn't be as successful as what it used to be. Nazzy seems unmotivated and not confident at times, perhaps age factor. Bertuzzi has become injury prone, which guarantees injuries if he has to play the role of a net crashing power forward. Morrison's been playing injured for several seasons, getting off-season surgery. He doesn't look like he's gonna get healed completely any time soon.
Sundin visiting Vancouver must mean he's here to tell Gillis "sorry, no thanks, f- off" again, this time in person, in his face. The chances of Sundin coming here is slim. It would be a pointless move on his end, since I'm pretty sure he would rather have the cup than to add $20mil to his already huge collection of money in his bank account.
Even if Sundin decides to sign now, Canucks have already lost several players because of his delay, and that somewhat defeats the purpose of getting Sundin in the first place. And perhaps, if Sundin had made a decision earlier, other free agents would of taken notice and decided to take Canucks as an option. A bit late now. I think Canucks should still get Sundin if oppurtunity arises, but just that the big impact as to pulling in other players will be a lot less effective now.

And Lidstrom isn't a soft European. He's a fucking Hall-of-Fame (guaranteed) defenseman that has never had a minus season and has been at or near the top of the league for the last 15 or so years. He's only a SLIGHT step down from Steve Yzerman as a Red Wings captain...and that's only because Stevie Y is one of the greatest leaders in hockey history. Comparing Lidstrom's skill and leadership qualities to the Sedins or Markus Naslund is like comparing Sleeman's to Bud Light. He's doesn't play a particularly physical style but if you piss him off, he'll burn you on the scoreboard instead and then smirk in your face.
Lidstrom will go down as one of the greatest players ever in the NHL while the Sedins and Naslund will probably be forgotten outside of Vancouver when they retire. | very, very nicely said.

We will need to clearly define what is a "first liner" and a "second liner" to end the debate.
What qualifies a player to be a "first liner"?
Hall of Fame?
"X" number of All-Star game appearances?
Player that impacts his own team the most?
Player that impacts any player around him regardless of team?
is leadership necessary or just the points? (are goals worth more than assists)
consistency over "X" number of years?
Maybe we should all discuss this first. Quote:

Sucks to see BMO go because he did fairly well with what he was given. Good hometown kid and hope he does well in Anaheim.

100% im buying the center ice package next year simply to watch other teams as much as i watch the canucks, this years playoffs got me hooked on constant hockey, and i dont want a day to go by where i cant watch a game Quote:

Sundin to me is a temporary bandage for the team somone they know can bring constant leadership, immediate impact, and a top line center, all of which are things we desperately need
he will anchor the entire team for the 2 years he is here, leading us to wherever we may end up, but after those 2 years odds are is he's gone, but im really thinking the hopes are that by the time he's gone, we are in prime position to aquire some big names and new leaders either through trades or FA and take "the next step" so to speak towards building a winning team and as i've always said from the beggining we are not losing anything but money
other then that scenario, i've really got no clues as to what else could happen
