I remember reading a few months back that Gaborik wanted to leave at the end of the season and wasn't too happy playing for the Wild. And wasn't he rumored to be interested in Vancouver?

I have a feeling that we're starting the regular season with our current roster.

Honestly, Eklund is a piece of trash. He has churned out rumour after rumour with very little substance.

That being said, Demitra is close friends with Gaborik, we have $10 million a year to throw around and a need for a top 6 player. There are, however, two mian problems that would hold up a deal being made:

1) What do we have to offer? The wild are going to be asking a lot for Gaborik if he is on the trading block. He is their franchise.

2) Sure we could sign Gaborik to a multi-year $7-8m/year contract, but doing so would likely squeeze out either the Sedins (who have put up similar numbers over the past 3 seasons) or Luongo ($$$$). A pursuit of Gaborik will need to take into account our long-term plans as a team.

I remember reading somewhere that Gaborik stated he did not want to follow Dimetra to Vancouver.

PS. when does training camp start?

maybe gillis should offer gaborik 10 mil a season. then get slapped in the face in a not so subtle way by signing with washington for 2 mil. i'd lmao, but still cheer for the nucks and the caps. that be a killer team, green, ovechkin, gaborik. damn. scary.

Problem with too many Euro players on one team is they go soft and cold during the playoffs. This is exactly what happen with the Wild last season, brilliant regular season but looked like a 8th place team in the post season because their star players went cold.

That been said, I would love to see Gaborik in a Canucks uniform but will it happen? I highly doubt it. The biggest problem I see standing between a trade is the bad blood between the Canucks and the Wild after the whole Dimetra signing.

Gaborik did wanna follow Demitra, its been stated in an article. Also Gaborik is unhappy with the Wild cause they let, Demitra and Rolston go, so he feels like hes wasting time playing for a non-cup contender. Also hes gonna demand the league max next season from the Wild to play there next season.

Isn't Detroit like..team Sweden in the NHL? Over half of their players are from Sweden or Russia. So I wouldn't exactly say they go soft.

OV is another euro player that isn't exactly soft. the truth of teh matter is, the euros of today are no longer as "soft" as they used to be.

I think the new generation of euro players are not longer the stereotypical "soft" players. Lidstrom captaining the wings to the cup is just another example to support that. Wasn't he the first non- North America born player to captain a team to the cup in "..." years?

^I think ever. Might be wrong though on that though.

I agree. Euro players without insane offensive skill realized they had to play with more grit to make it to the NHL. In Ovechkin's case, he has both.

I believe and I could be wrong that Lid is the first and only non north american player to captain a stanley cup team and hatcher is the only american to captain a stanley cup team. I think

You are correct on both accounts. At least in "recent" history.

For sure Lidstrom's the one and only Euro to captain a team to the cup.

Aight aight. Do you happen to know in NHL history then? I'm curious and kind of find it shocking that only 2 non canadian captains have helped their team win a cup. Any other non canadians?

nope. the thing is, Canadian captains have a longer serving history than non-Canadian captains. so the chances of a non- Canadian captain winning a cup is far less than a Canadian captain.
