The Canucks will still have to pay the full amount. It's split 50/50 only if the Canucks pick him up on re-entry waivers.

Question: If we pick up Shneider, do the Ducks still have to pay for part of his contract or do we pay for 100% of his huge contract? | I know if you pick someone up off re-entry waivers, then you get them at half-price while the team that loses him picks up the other half. I'm not sure if this is the same situation.
Either way, Schnieder is like 37. Bieksa is just entering his prime. We had better get a good return for Bieksa if we trade him. I'd rather trade Ohlund or Salo, really.

no one in their right mind would pick him on on reg. waivers when they can take him on re-entry, just like why no one would trade for him because they knew he'd end up being bought out.
it's a stupid rule. it's supposed to create a sense of urgency when star players are bought out, and even when it does happen, teams are still likely to wait. look at bert.
if brian burke wasn't brian burke, he's be unemployed by now.

^ burke has a stanley cup ring, u dont.
Do we really want schnieder? i dont know if thats the kind of move we really want to make, imo i'll have more respect if gillis takes alot of consideration into it, ending in not signing him, then quickly signing him on the return waivers

You pick up Schneider and you get a good PP QB that has a great first pass. His salary is a little inflated but it expires at the end of the season. You get him and you move a guy like Salo or Bieksa to get some offensive help up front.
Schneider might be getting old but he's still a hell of a good player to have. Picking him up makes perfect sense imo

With the Canucks glass d-men, he would be a great addition. Honestly I don't see Salo going anywhere. He's got the NTC plus it's well known he is injury prone. Having Schneider not only helps our defense but it will help the Canucks offense a great deal. We have lacked the type of d-man who could move the puck from one end to the other end of the rink. Improves our PP, our defense and depth on an injury prone defensive core. Oh and we have a lot of cap space, so might as well use it.

Ya he's not going to hurt you that's for sure. They have 10 million in cap space and if Sundin isn't coming here they aren't going to use most of it even if they pickup another forward so why not get him? Seriously, as fans it's not our money what the fuck do we care if the Nucks spend to the cap.
One thing about him is If he makes it to re-entry waivers all the teams below us in the standings would have first crack at him. Since LA was trying to get a deal done to trade for him I doubt we'd get him on the way back before the Kings poach him.

With 10M, we can blow it on whatever's available now or save it for a chance at an impact player if it comes. If you spend the money just to fill the holes, you might feel better. But do you want to be a little bit better or wait for a chance to be a lot better?
Remember, once that 10Mil's gone, that's it for the year. I want a real chance at the cup, not a little bit better chance to get into the second round. Might as well just save it for a higher draft pick.

His contract is still 5.625M a year, that's more than half of what we got. If we really trade Bieksa for a forward, who are we going to get? I would've liked Erik Cole (I believe there was a rumour about a trade like this prior to him being traded for Pitkanen), but that's out the window now.
Perhaps Phil Kessel? Speedy forward with hands to match, and excellent dangler. Imagine Kessel playing with Raymond and Grabner. Boy, we can dream can't we?

Bryzgalov was a decent goalie, but with Jonas Hiller waiting in the wings (no pun intended), they really didn't need him, or the salary he was going to be asking for.
Trading away Andy Mcdonald was two-fold. First, his production had started to decline, and he just wasn't as good as he was the year before. You could argue that that was because Selanne wasn't there, but still. Second, they didn't want to be saddled with his 3.3 mil contract for the next couple years, so they traded to St.Louis to pick up Weight. Why? Because Weight was in the last year of his contract, and they had no intention of resigning him, because they were going to need the money for Getzlaf and Perry.
I don't like seeing Schneider getting moved (I am after all a diehard Ducks fan and he's a great defenseman), but again, it's all about the money. Teemu is coming back, and with Getzlaf and Perry with their new contracts, they have to find the money somehow. Their defense is the last thing they have to worry about, so out he goes.
...And just how does a retard engineer a Stanley Cup team, anyway?

You guys have to understand Burke's not simply giving his players away, he's not an idiot. As a GM he's made promises to his players. Ex. Bryzgalov wanted to be a #1 goalie so Burke promised him he would try to trade him by a certain date, if not then he'd put him on Waivers.
Burke kept his word and ended up putting Bryzgalov on Waivers. The Ducks may have lost a goalie that day but future players will look to see what Burke has done in the past and they're more willing to play for a guy who will keep his word. Especially if Burke ends up with another organization down the road... if he's looking for a goaltender and Bryzgalov happens to be available, don't be surprised if they get reunited.

Okay.... Burke is making some $1.5M per year as an NHL GM... you aren't. Obviously the fact that he had Bryan Murray's team to build on wasn't a big factor in that.
Feel better now?
