you know, all summer long, i was saying 'canucks team this year is gonna suck' ... well, i'm eating my words. if they can continue this style of play -- IT'S EXCITING TO WATCH AGAIN.. not that fucking slow-to-a-stop trap.

Good game. You never know what'll happen the rest of this season, but this was one helluva home opener.

I never doubted them. Young, up and coming players. Gotta love it. You don't need high paid old timers **cough** Sundin to be successful. Develop players and surround them with good coaches and solid veterans. Good goalie helps. Manitoba Moose, ftw. I think getting people like Ryan Walters makes a difference. Again, it's only one game, but play with passion like tonight and losses will be few and far between.

Canucks tonight..
I really liked how they played tonight.. I love how they are extremely balanced. Every line, every player seems to fit into a role. There doesn't seem to be any greed or any guys who are stand outs. It makes for a real team effort (i know that sounds gay). But overall I am saying it equals chemistry. From the D core tonight all the way up, everyone skated hard and contributed on both ends. Luongo was perfect and the Canucks gave up very little to Calgary. They were positioned well and they fought hard midway thru the first to kill off that 5-3 when the Flames had all that momentum. I didn't even spot an odd mad rush, though I was working on my hw for a bit.
Overall I think the team looks to be in great shape here starting out of the gate. With a strong pre-season and this season opener, I am sure there are a lot of people out there who are surprisingly impressed with tonights effort.
The next 9 games will definately give us an eye opener for what to expect this season.

You know whats sweet. We did that without Sundin's "offensive presence" and we still have 9.5mill in cap space!

Great win tonight, but did anybody notice how poorly Pyatt played today aside from that one rush? He seemed like he was in slow-motion out there with Raymond and Demitra, and was coughing up the puck a lot... Kesler - Burrows - Hansen line was definately awesome out there tonight though. I also love the new team toughness....just pure awesomeness!

yeah, Gillis just needs to give Sundin a hard deadline. We can't stick around waiting for an answer from him. Granted, we're only one game into the season so it's a little early to say, but the Canucks seem to be doing quite well without him.
Anyways, it seemed to be a good game with contributions by everyone. The beginning of the 1st period looked a little shaky, and Luongo practically stood on his head to keep the team in the game. Kesler took a pretty bad beating firstly from the high stick, and then from a skate. I hope he's not banged up too badly. The Luc tribute was pretty nice too, although it would have been nicer if they acknowledged the fan that gave back the Luc jersey a little more. (said thanks, give them a team signed jersey or something like that) She kinda got shoved in the background and didn't really get acknowledged for her generousity in giving the family Luc's last game jersey.

Dude, the last scrap of the game, I almost shedded a tear. The entire game was fucking beautiful. Really loving this new gritty style of play we have now. I remember saying even if we don't get as many wins as we hope, if we have this aggressive and gritty type of play going on, who the hell cares? People are entertained. Not that I don't want them to win the cup. woo.
It was great seeing Raymond totally outskate the defenders, and with a little more experience he'll be putting a crapload of pucks in the net.
Pyatt -- holy shit, he had a very strong game, especially his give and go. He proved that he is capable physically, to dish hits and to handle the puck. I liked how he actually went into the messy areas, and finish his checks. Only problem is that he's a big body and is still fairly slow, especially when you're on a line with Raymond and Demitra. I know I'm always saying how he lags behind and is completely sloppy, but today I give him an A for effort today! Let's hope he continues this style of play throughout the season!
Ohlund was great, huge hits, especially on Bertuzzi hahahaha and that totally got everybody going. Hopefully he continues this type of play!
Rypien - I never liked him because he always took stupid penalties, or else he gets injured after a scrap. This guy may be a surprise like Kesler and Burrows. A scrappy player who becomes high flying when needed. One can only hope.
Bernier was awesome, once again he scrapped and stood up for his teammates. He heads to the net, and parks himself infront. Just a little more time with the Sedins, and I believe their chemistry will be amazing. Right now, Bernier is still slightly slower than the Sedin's expect of him, from seeing many passes that are too far ahead, but with time this should be much better.
Johnson is always overlooked, but I think his blocked shot was something that really revitalized the team.
I agree with redliine and that a huge factor for the game today was that the lines were very balanced, and everybody showed both their defensive abilities and offense. The players were very accoutable for everything they did, and rarely did you see any breakdowns you'd see from them these past few seasons.
...but alas, it's only the first game, but what a beauty.
