And in other news......Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey met with the 37-year-old Sundin in California on Wednesday in hopes of restoring talks between the two sides.

Demitra seems to love it in Vancouver http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Brad-...-Year/78/17987 Quote:
After the game, I had the chance to interview Pavol Demitra. In asking him about what appeared to be obvious similarities between the Wild and the Canucks, Demitra corrected me when he stated "it's not even close. We've got a lot of freedom on the ice. Everybody has to be defense and offense, while in Minnesota the center always played defense." "We got alot of criss crossing and alot of freedom on the ice and we can skate anywere we want and just get open." Demitra said he liked the offensive freedom in Vancouver's system in addition to playing with the same player for many games.

my friend was at the rangers game... he bumped into a few canadians there - who actually met aqualini at a bar earlier that night. apparently, aqualini told them that sundin is pretty much a done deal...

Tellin' ya... Gaborik to Montreal (because Minny wouldn't move him to anyone in the West), Sundin to Vancouver... Sundin for Gaborik trade... it'll happen, you'll see!

dOES gAINEY seriously think he can sign either Gaborik or Sundin.
Montreal is near the cap, with only 1.9 M in space left.
Sundin and Gaborik are both going to fetch at least $6Mill, prorate that and that is still $4.5 mill for the remaining 3/4 of a season.
To make that much room, Gainey will need to trade away at least one player on the roster that makes $2 -3 mill a year and some draft picks/minor leaguers.
Problem with this is that he is going to take a chance and play with the teams chemistry by trading away players for Gaborik.
At least in Vancouver, we currently have the cap space.

All ill will towards Pavol aside from Minnesota fans, he is happy and a happy Demitra is a productive Demitra. Perhaps Canucks management will have Demitra sit down with Gaborik during the offseason similar to how Risebrough had Gaborik talk to Hossa during the offseason in Slovakia. If that happens, I suspect we will have even more reason to dislike the Canucks which would take what Minnesota fans consider a rivalry to the next level.

I don't understand all the buzz about Gaborik coming here because of Demitra. At least with Sundin, the $10 mill bait makes more sense than a player coming here for friendship.
Were these ppl not around for the Forsberg or Gretzky saga? Or maybe I'm just jaded as I've seen this before and it never works out.

Gaborik is one of the most exciting players in the NHL and we havn't had a player like him since Bure. This team needs a break out player that will change the monintum of the game in the drop of a hat. Of course the only down side is the on going injuries he has.

NOT *giggle*
Demitra and Gaborik were one of the top scoring duos in the league when they played for the Wild... and remember, that was under Lemaire's stifling defensive system. Look at Demitra's comments about AV's more open, offense-oriented system and just imagine what the two of them could do with that. Can we say, new top line?
Honestly, I think it's a bit of a pipe dream, but it's a NICE pipe dream
Noir, granted, it was a few years ago that they were at their peak, but the same is true of Sundin... and consider, again, that they'd probably do a lot better under AV than with Lemaire's system. I'd never expect we're looking at another Gretzky/Kurri level of combination, but it sure has a lot more potential than the twins, which as amazing as they can be at what they do, don't have a whole lot of extra tricks up their sleeves.

I think we'll get Gaborik the next season. Minny will most likely unload Gabby (remember, he has expressed openly that doesn't want to re-sign) to an Eastern team for prospects to aid in their Cup run. Pavol and Gabby will chit chat like always and Gabby won't resign with the Eastern team and come to Vancouver in the off-season. Hooray! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh *sigh* to dream ...

I wasn't contesting Gaborik's ability to contribute. I was contesting the plausibility of a player switching clubs based on friendship alone.
Just like Naslund - Forsberg, Gretzky - Messier, people expected that both players would be a Canuck because of history with Naslund and Messier alone. In the end, everyone disappoints themselves as nothing ever materializes due to other factors taking more precedence over friendship alone.
(I think with Gretzky, management was the deal breaker wasn't it? I think I heard rumours he wasn't happy with Canuck management, I can't confirm it though).

I'd rather take Sundin for 2 years @ 10 million then getting a guy like Gaborik for $7-8 mill.
He is way too injuring prone to be throwing that kind of money at him.

I like this quote from Alan Vigneault taken from Canucks.com Quote: Coach Alain Vigneault likes what he sees from the Demitra and Sedin twins on a line.
"They are coming along. They are passing a lot. I'd like to see them shoot a little bit more, but then you see how they score the third goal and you just say those are skilled players and they have to work itself out."
| It's funny how its sort of true. Obviously, either way can be beneficial but it raises the question, at what point should you tell your players how to play the game, and at what point should you leave them alone and just let them do their thing?
So as hockey players, what's your take? Should the Sedins change their game up and increase their shooting threat instead of their passing threats? Or should just let them be and play the game the way they've always played it?

I really liked what Ray Ferraro had to say about the sedins
he said somthing along the lines of, No it's not hard to play with the sedins and it's not them that is the problem, its because the line mate is not smart enough or good enough usually to pick up on the play
whoever is playing with them simply needs to find the opening and get in the right position and have the ability to take the usually hard/fast past coming from the side boards and slot and if they have the skill to complete the pass they just need to finish and it's done
lol and Ferraro also said that if he was playing with them in his prime he'd be confident he would score 35 goals
but i do agree, if Carter was able to have so much success with them there's no reason that with a skilled enough player they will eventually click, they are too good not to

Which is why I think Wellwood would be a good match to play with the twins.
