I'm kind of interested in seeing how good of a player he is. I never followed his games or his stats. I just know everyone says he's really good and he is the missing puzzle for the Canucks, so I have no doubt not to believe so...

Sundin, look at his stats, hes a point a game player thru out his career. Look at which players he played with when he was in Toronto Maple Leafs, I think If he does sign with Canucks, it wont hurt us. PLUS we have wellwood haha

I think Philadelphia and Chicago are the clubhouse leaders to land Sundin, according to my sources from the end of the bar. Vancouver has an existing offer on the table, at an astounding two years and $20 million (which would obviously be pro-rated now). But I’d place the Canucks third in the hunt at the moment.

Sundin has a crazy backhand. And he shoots from anywhere with his large arsenal of shots, so that will help our PP.

Flyers and Hawks will need to clear ALOT of cap space to get sundin... unless he takes a discount.

him joining the canucks will allow our second line to generate more goals
if sundin does sign, he'll be on the first line
probably with wellwood and bernier
this makes the sedins and demitra the second line, which would be good for us
our opponent's checking line will be going after our top line
this leaves the second line to deal with second line, which won't be hard checking, giving the sedins and demitra more opportunities to score
of course this is just speculation, but think about how awesome our lines would be

^ Agreed.
Plus as we saw in Toronto, Sundin will still kickass even if he has shitty linemates.

Doesn't Sundin signing here make it harder for us to re-sign a lot of players who's contracts are up at the end of this season? Off the top of my head I can think of about 6 or so players who are UFA or RFA this coming summer.

Sundin is a team player too. Someone that puts the team first. I don't see him having a problem fitting in.
And as per the cap for next year, it does make things more difficult. However we're probably going to unload pyatt and maybe someone else (well more like have to).

ST. PAUL - The Vancouver Canucks should know by the middle of the month whether they have won the Mats Sundin sweepstakes.
Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry, attended Friday night's Canucks-Minnesota Wild game and confirmed that deadline.
"We are driving towards making a decision by Dec. 15," Barry said. "So right now we are trying to narrow the teams down. I have to ask some questions. There have been so many teams that have contacted us late so I need to go through the process and make sure I give Mats all the information.
"Then, let's cut it down to three or four teams at the most and drive toward the questions we need answered and get it done."
Barry's comments followed a Team 1040 radio interview Canucks general manager Mike Gillis did earlier in the day in Vancouver. Gillis said he hoped to meet with the Sundin camp in the next couple of days and suggested he expected some kind of resolution within a week or so. That seems to fit with what Barry said after Friday's game.
"I'm hoping that we're closing in on this and we'll have some definitive steps made in the next seven to 10 days," Gillis said.
The Canuck GM said Sundin's response to the Canucks' interest in him has been "nothing but positive" from the time that they started dealing with him this past summer.
Sundin is currently training in Southern California and refusing all interview requests.
Barry said the fact Sundin has missed so much of the season has allowed other teams to get involved. Sundin's salary will be pro-rated, so teams don't need quite as much salary cap room as they would have this past summer.
"It has brought other teams that have quietly called and maybe explained why they would be good options," Barry said. "There have been a number of teams that have explored it, but there are certain teams that have been very focused on it for a long time and they are the likely finalists."
Barry said Vancouver is "absolutely" one of those teams. He said he plans to meet with Gillis in the next couple of days.
"We want to make a decision by the middle of the month," Barry said. bziemer@vancouversun.com

At the end of the season the twins, Pylon, Burrows, Jaffray, Ouellet, Krog, Ohlund, Davidson, Nycholat, Baumgartner, Sanford, and Pettinger are UFA's.
O'Brien, Hansen, Rypien, Brown, Wellwood, and Bernier are RFA's.
We know Pettinger is gone, so his salary is freed up for next year. I do hope they let Pylon go as his current contract is $1.575 mill.
I think the last i heard, there was talk that the cap might go down for next year, in which case I would like to see how Gillis is going to resign the twins and Burrows.

if we are still a contender at the trade deadline, send schneider and some picks somewhere for someone that wont cost $10 fucking million dollars who probably wont play next year because he cant make up his mind if he even wants to play THIS year. as much as we all want to love schneider as our future, he isnt going to hang around the moose forever and hes going to be way too good to play 10 games a season behind luongo.
low long is it going to take sundin at his age to get into game shape if he decides to come back at christmas?
we dont have cap room to resign the sedins and company next year and sign sundin. the cap will probably go down next year as revenue will be going down as the economy is struggling
we arent winning the cup this year with or without sundin. so why screw up the chemistry of a really good group of developing young guys with a 1.5 season 15million rental player who definitely will have some demands in the locker room.
plus, who wants an attention whore like sundin anyways? hes had 6 months to make up his mind and every time he comes out with a statement its a "maybe i might consider thinking about playing at some point." you either play or you dont. gillis embarrassed himself and the canucks with the $20m offer and sundin embarrassed gillis and the canucks with saying "meh" to it. the offer should have been taken off the table at the start of training camp. sundin has spent too much time in the Toronto media circus and it appears as tho he loves it.

| 1.) Trading Schneider before Luongo is re-signed would be a dumb move. We can possibly get a 'rental' player now without losing any assets.
2.) There is no chemistry on the second line - look at how much they've produced. Plus we have the cap space (at least this year) so why not use it.

As has been mentioned sundins contract will be pro-rated so even if he does join us we will still have cap space this year. Sundins not only a huge addition on the ice but also off in terms of leadership, he would be innvaluable to young players development.
As well personally i think if Sundin signs a 2 year deal the twins will almost certainly take a large hometown discount, personally i think people are nuts for thinking they would want upwards of 5 million a peice, i think they would almost certainly lock in on a longer term 4.5-5 million dollar deal which would be an absolute steal in terms of performance.
Sundin would never come to a team if he didnt feel he could perform at his highest level and contribute quality minutes to the team, im sure he's in fine playing shape even at this point and a vet like him knows exactly what it takes to keep up with the pace.
If anything he is yes a short term fix, but it's the best posible bandaid for our team at this point and could only help us progress into an elite team quicker then we would otherwise.

I would play the twins with Demitra. Other line I would play Wellwood with Sundin and Bernier or Raymond. Burrow/Kesler/Hansen line stays the same and the Johnson/Hortichuck/Borwn/Rypien line is fine.
But the Nuck's need to decide to keep one and trade the other (Bernier/Raymond) and trade Pyatt for a bag of pucks.

Sedins, Demitra keep clicking
Trio has racked up 22 points in 5 games
By Jim Jamieson
November 25, 2008
They didn't dominate like they had in the three previous games, but the Vancouver Canucks' new super line focused their high-end talent when it counted in a tight-checking 3-2 overtime win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Monday at GM Place.
Sami Salo's winning goal was manufactured by Pavol Demitra along with his linemates of the past five games -- Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
With the Red Wings a man short, Demitra worked the puck around artfully with the twins before feathering a pass to Salo for the decisive blast past Detroit goalie Chris Osgood.
Although Daniel's even-strength tying goal, with just 2:25 remaining in the third period, was in the middle of a line change and didn't include Demitra and Henrik on the ice, it still, at least technically, gave the trio an eye-popping 22 points (9-13) since being put together five games ago against the New York Islanders.
Demitra said after the 3-2 win last week in Minnesota, when the new line scored the tying and winning goals, that the unit could be among the best lines in the league.
The way the threesome throws the puck around and is racking up points, that's no exaggeration --although there might be some concern about putting all the eggs in one basket. Demitra said he can't explain the instant chemistry he's had with the Sedins so far -- only acknowledge it.
"The first game, first shift we scored a goal," said Demitra, who extended his points streak to six games (5-5-10) but saw a four-game goal streak (five goals) snapped.
" I think we're just having a good time. It's a fun game playing with those two guys. Having the puck most of the game on your stick and passing to each other is great."
It's a surprise how it worked out that Demitra ended up playing with the Sedins. He was signed as a free agent in the summer to centre the second line, but he missed 10 games with a rib injury, and scoring problems around the whole team forced head coach Alain Vigneault to try him with the twins.
The way they're playing, there won't be any juggling there any time soon.
"I don't think it was the plan that I was supposed to play with those two guys," said Demitra. "But, whatever is working, and I'm glad I got a chance to play with those two. I'm having an unbelieveable time, the best time I've had in the last few years. I played with Gabby (good friend Marian Gaborik) in Minnesota, but those two guys are special players."
Daniel had an assist on Salo's goal to get to 400 points in the NHL, one ahead of Henrik.
He's a world-class player," said Daniel of the chemistry. "He reads the ice so well, too, he seems to find the open spots."

Anyhoo from TSN:
According to the Ottawa Sun, Wild GM Doug Risebrough has offered injured winger Marian Gaborik around the NHL for a player who can help right away, a prospect and No. 1 pick, and isn't finding any takers.
| Wonder if he talked to Gillis at all? I'm sure we could trade someone for Gabby, even if he is injured... Pyatt could be an impact player for the Wild :haha
