Just got this email

In court the other day there was a case regarding the custody of a small child.
The judge asked the boy, "do you want to live with your mother?"
He replied, "No I don't want to live with her because she beats me!".

The judge then asked, "Do you want to live with your father?"
The boy stated, "No he beats me too."
Finally the judge asked, "where do you want to live?"

The child responded, "I want to live with the Vancouver Canucks!".
The judge asked, "Why do you want to live with the Vancouver Canucks?"

The boy exclaimed, "Because the Vancouver Canucks don't beat anybody

lol, just because Linden's a hero (in Vancouver) doesn't make him automatically a super coach. BUT, if AV has lost canucks as in getting respect, (I'm not sure if that is the case) Linden would be able to get the team's respect. But in terms of coaching, I think it ends there. I don't think Linden's ready to guide a team like a coach.

I remember that old joke too. Someone posted it last season when Canucks were in a major slump.

I think the problem is that no one plays consistently enough on this team on a game to game basis. Besides the Sedins who are almost guaranteed to play together on the first line, and Burrows and Kesler on the 3rd line, AV juggles the rest around depending on game to game performance (or his personal man crush on Pyatt) and just benches whoever. And in a sense, there is actually no guarantee that Wellwood or whoever would play better than whoever he swapped in. Just because each player seems to go hot or cold each game.

I think the last time Canucks won, Bernier had a good game against Oilers, and we all know many times, we rather not have that guy playing. Or against the Sharks, Pyatt was the only guy that scored, and we rather not have that guy on the team at all. Where the hell were the other players??

I'm not sure if Sundin can skate with Kes/Burr. The last game, it seemed like Sundin just kept passing it off instead of carrying it deep. I think I saw him pass it to a D-man twice and let him carry it into the zone lol!

haha, I wouldn't bet my house on them winning. Got tickets to the game, so hopefully they'll actually put up a half decent effort and at least try to win or hold a lead.

Seeing that they're playing Minny and the only way we can even have a fighting chance of winning is to play defensive, I suspect it may be a snoozefest with a whole lot of trapping going on in the neutral zone...

i would say they should play more offensive, because with both team are classified as DEF teams..
we should test their goalie more often and keep them in the DEF zone

To everyone posting that Pat Quinn or Marc Crawford should become coach....GO AWAY!

We've seen that movie...and quite frankly as a Canucks fan...I don't want to see it again...If they lose the remaining 3 home games...then yes, I think AV will be fired..because it's too hard in today's calary cap era to make a trade ...so the coach is the scape goat..

Pat Quinn...Marc Craford?? Are you kidding me? Ok let's go get Antropov too and cheer for an ALL ex-LEAFS lineup in Wellwood-Sundin-Antropov... WOW...no way!

I think the Canucks are almost at rock bottom..but they will come out of this funk sooner than later....If you look at the playoff race...theres some teams in there..where I'm shaking my head..thinking the Canucks can beat these teams...and they play alot of their schedule against these teams coming up...A favourable March sched in my opinion compared to Calgary...

Patience people.....

I think AV willl be gone in the off season.....theres nothing out there in terms of coaches...

If he were to fired....Then my number one pick would have to be.......

DON HAY..Vancouver Giants...
He didn't have a good stint in the NHL..back with Calgary I think..but he's come a long way....The guys money in the bank with the GIANTS...

PPL the Patullo is now open..go jump....

Not to mention all the championships he won coaching the Kamloops Blazers in the 90's.

Don Hay is an expert when it comes to developing young players. He's a genius, but the NHL is a little different. Having said that, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Anyone in the farm team or assistant coach types out there that might fit the bill?

DEMITRA TO MISS WILD

Pavol Demitra will not play in Saturday night’s game against his former club, the Minnesota Wild. The winger sidelined with a groin injury, practiced with the team at UBC yesterday and again today, but is not quite game-ready.

The Dubnica, Slovakia native previously missed 10 games earlier this season with a fractured rib, before returning for the November 15th game against Toronto, tallying three assists before going on to collect 10 points in six games.

The Wild are in town tomorrow for the fourth match up against the Canucks so far this season. Both teams are tied with 51 points, although Minnesota has two games in hand. The Minnesota squad plays in Edmonton tonight before flying to Vancouver.

Energy forward Mike Brown will return to the lineup for his first game since January 2nd in Atlanta. Mason Raymond will likely join Shane O’Brien as a healthy scratch with d-man Rob Davison expected to play. Lawrence Nycholat is on IR with groin problems, along with Demitra, and Rick Rypien remains out of the lineup with a sports hernia injury.

+ Click for larger photo“We’ve got a lot of confidence in Shane, but saying that we need him to play to his strengths,” said head coach Alain Vigneault when asked about the d-man switch.

“He was brought in as a good, physical defenceman that has the capabilities sometimes to defend himself and defend his teammates. By being a physical presence on the ice I think it buys him a little time to be able to move the puck well and make good decisions with the puck. Right now he’s not as physical as he can be and I think that’s hurting him with the puck because other teams can put pressure on him.”

Vigneault has made a few line adjustments heading into the Wild match up. Mats Sundin has been skating with Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows in practice. Vigneault feels that the Burrows and Kesler pairing is their strongest duo besides the Sedins and their consistent play and intensity will be complimented by Sundin's skill.

“It’s nice,” said Burrows of his new linemate. “Mats is an unbelievable player, hopefully we will be able to make it click and get a few goals. It’s really fun to play with a guy like that, that’s for sure.

“I don’t think [it will change our role]. Kes and I are still going to go out there and try to play hard against whoever we play against. Just play the same kind of way, get the puck deep and try to create some traffic in front and generate some offence. But at the same time you want to be really reliable defensively, play well in all three zones and still be in people’s faces.”

The top line of Daniel and Henrik Sedin with Taylor Pyatt is expected to stay the same, as they have had success in recent games. Kyle Wellwood, originally expected to be a healthy scratch, will likely centre Steve Bernier and Jannik Hansen, while combination of Ryan Johnson, Darcy Hordichuk, and Mike Brown fills out the offensive lines.

Finally Raymond is a scratch.... and to a lesser extent O'Brien... so tired of him looking up at the sky going "That's not fair!" when he gets some dumb penalty every single game... I don't think being the NHL's leading penalty minute getter from not fighting is somethign to be proud of. That said, he doesn't make nearly as many mistakes as Bieksa so go figure...

Don Hay as a coach would be an experiment...having him as assistant would be better off for the up and comings up hodgeson and grabner..other than that..
Don Hay as the coach...dont want it...

and i think his heart is 100% with the Giants anyways.

I honestly dont think theres a better coach out there than AV at the moment for the canucks..sadly..its the only one?

maybe bring in a European coach?...long shot..and probably a VERY bad idea...
John Totteralla(sp?) i unno..truely, he was a winner in the past..but cant say the same thing..he's sorta lost the bolts after winning.
Peter Laviolette? had a younger team that would listen to work with...dont know how he will be able to deal with some of hte older guys...but he sorta had a better streak than tottarella
Theres also Denis Savard...but mehh..noo idea..dont think thats a good candidate..

all the Crawford/Quinn talk...its mainly from ppl that cant move on past the linden/naslund era....honestly, this team needs a new identity..if they blow up the team this year and build around Luongo...im all for it...this years draft isnt "deep" but its got some potential...

i think thats another thing to consider when searching for coach...someone to be able to communicate well and get along well with the older guys and keep the locker room as ONE

Money next year will be tough...especially for Canadian markets who pay out in USD, but deal with CDN..which means to all the ppl that want the sedins to stay...well..they better take what the have now..or maybe a 500k raise..or else they should be better off looking for work in the US

Well hard to build around Lu because who knows if he's going to stick around Vancouver. The Canucks have no identity. No solid leadership.

I would acutally be surprised if Lu would stick around if Canucks miss the playoffs again this season. There is no diff between vancouver and florida if that was the case. Lu would want to ship himself to a real contender then.

Feuding and flopping: Can Sundin's Canucks end the freefall?

You may or may not have heard about a story over the summer regarding Mats Sundin and his indecisiveness over returning to the NHL. It was buried among the many false off-season rumors and the circus coming to town in Tampa Bay.

OK, so the media beat the story to death, but look on the bright side now: Vancouver is struggling and Sundin has been about as effective as a Detroit Red Wings conspiracy theory.

Through nine games with the Vancouver Canucks, the big Swede has just two goals and is currently a minus-5 while Vancouver suffers through an eight-game losing streak. Over the all-star break, Sundin didn't even step foot on the ice and instead spent his brief holiday with his fiancée and dog; not something you'd expect from a soon-to-be 38 year old who's played eight games since March.

Not to worry though. Mats' struggles with the grind of playing professional hockey again has been noticed by famed theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, who took time out of his busy schedule to encourage Sundin.

This brings us to the current state of the Vancouver Canucks: freefall.

Once atop their division, they now sit in a five-way tie for eighth in the Western Conference. Roberto Luongo returned from injury on January 15 and has yet to record a victory. Head coach Alain Vigneault was polishing his second Jack Adams Trophy in three seasons just a few months ago and now is currently sharing the hot seat with close friend and Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Michel Therrien.

But things are totally cool!

The Canucks practised today at UBC Thunderbird Arena, and the highlight came 25 minutes in during a full-ice drill. During a breakout, struggling defenceman Willie Mitchell pasted struggling winger Mason Raymond against the side boards. Raymond didn't like it; heavy physical contact is unusual during an NHL team practice.

Mitchell turned and skated back into his zone to retrieve the puck, at which time Raymond ran him. Two hits, both clean, both unlikely.

Raymond went to the net. Mitchell followed him, and delivered a cross-check followed by a high-stick.

Good times ensued. Actually, they didn't. A scrum ensued, with heavyweight Shane O'Brien taking out Mitchell with another hit. No punches, no challenges. Just some good old-fashioned tension that happens when a team once leading their division is now in 10th place in the conference.

Let's not forget about that "unsourced, unfounded rumor from Toronto" (http://www.faceoff.com/hockey/teams/...%3Fid%3D830270) about Vigneault being canned. You're telling someone from Toronto made up a rumor like that? Geez, you'd think they would have charged for that sort of inside information.

What's currently in the Canucks favor is that when Pavol Demitra returns this weekend, Vancouver will be completely healthy, a rare sight this season. Their remaining schedule will feature only seven games against likely playoff teams and you'd have to believe a now-healthy Roberto Luongo will start every game down the stretch and eventually bust out of his mini-funk. If he feels the need to, general manager Mike Gillis has about $3 million in salary cap space make a move before the March 4 trade deadline.

Whatever the issue is with Vancouver Canucks, the pressure is on the entire organization, and according to Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province the starting point in the team's turnaround should be a little life on the ice:

No, you can whinge (sic) about bad calls and bad breaks all you want. But the plain fact is the Canucks have long since used all their get-out-of-jail free cards and their season now becomes pretty simple.

Either they want to play for Alain Vigneault or they don't. Either Roberto Luongo is one of the NHL's three best goalies or he isn't. Either Mats Sundin is still an impact player or he isn't.

Either they get it done -- or they don't.

"It's not enough right now," said Daniel. "We have to find ways to win."

They have to find something. A heartbeat would be a good place to start.
