| NHL ON TSN QUIZ: WOULD YOU CONSIDER TRADING LUONGO?
If you were Canucks' GM Mike Gillis, would you consider trading Roberto Luongo?
Peter Laviolette: No, there are far too few good goalies and he certainly is one of them.
Darren Pang: No, you don't trade a goaltender like that. First of all, he's your foundation player. They need a lot of players and he's the reason why they would attract a lot of free agents. But I would take away the captaincy from him and give it to a player.
Bob McKenzie: Possibly, because he's a year away from unrestricted free agency and you have to sit down, talk to him and find out what it will take to re-sign him. You have to bring other players in but you have to know what it's going to cost you long-term. So I would at least explore the possibility of trading him. |

I would say no trade to Luongo, but of course explore the option. That being said,
He is probably one of the best goalies Canucks have ever had, and who knows what else can we get if we were to trade. And I'm pretty sure whoever else playing in net after isn't going to be better.
But of course, if Luongo's asking for too much money, then you just can't do anything but let him go...

finally stupid fucking Moj acknowledge the idea i sent him like 4 emails about yesterday
thinking you "NEED" to trade Lu in order to get prospects is really not the case, because if he does decide to sign a new contract we can trade off Schneider like nothing and get a first round pick or somthing very valuable in return

I like how Boston's goalie just booted it after Canes scored in OT lol. Didn't even react to the goal and just headed straight for the bench hahaha.

wow, ouch... Down 3-1 in the series, I'm surprised they made it back to game 7 though.
That being said, I'm really having difficulty in finding any interest in this now that Canucks are out of the picture.
I guess I really only care about the Canucks afterall... |

Easily plus 15 goals in the season if he had finished most of those tap ins. | Some time i think that the nuck are making a wrong move by signing players like bernier and pyatt. They shod not be concentrating in just farming players but to actually sign a superstar player that actually puts up numbers or contribute. Sure bernier has his season high bla bla but he played 81 games this season! Back when he was with san jose he put up almost the same numbers with half the number of games played. Honestly hes gotta step it up being a round 1 draft pick. For pyatt hes just a rock skating around with his finger up his ass, disgrace for a rd 1 too.

pyatt is gone and was not a Gillis signing.
and bernier probably took less then 2 mill a year per year, i'd say thats pretty good value.

I like Bernier, I think he has another level or two left to his development. I think he was some untapped potential with speed and if a trainer works with him on his finish/hands/shooting, he'll be a pretty darn good 2-way forward.

You're main emphasis should always be developing players within your system.
Look at how fucked Toronto is. They traded away all their draft picks for rental players and have no young talent to develop and have to start over.
Now look at Detroit. Almost all their players are detroit draft picks and brought up thru their system.

If you look at all the past Stanley Cup winners they don't win because in the off season they decided to sign like 6 guys who all did it for them. Most of the team will be built from players they had + guys they drafted and the signing or signings are the last piece of the puzzle so to speak. I mean look at the rangers who not so long ago just signs all these guys and look where it got them, yea that's right no where. Not just hockey but look at other sports too.

Not all draft picks end up the way you want it too and you cant always relied on that either. Dont have to sign crosbys n malkins but at least have some one that worth investin into...not sundin.Every team needs a player with superstar status. Goalies dont count as they can only do so much

Goalies dont count as they can only do so much | Not quite sure what you are trying to say, but ultimately it's a matter of short term success vs long term success.
Chicago went through years of rebuilding. Ending the season near the bottom of the league so that they were near the top of the draft picks. But besides having a high draft pick, they have a scouting staff that actually drafted players that could make the NHL. Lastly, they had people working with these draft picks to get them ready for the NHL. Well, that last one is more Detroit.
Sign/trade for a few good players to make up for whatever short comings the team has.
Pittsburg went through many years where they were near the top with Lemiuex and Jgar, but then they sucked for many years and now through good drafting, they are starting to do well. Same with Washington.
unfortunately, Vancouver and Toronto made some bad moves in the last few years and traded away draft pics for "rental" players in a last ditch attempt to make the playoffs. Not only that, but some of their draft pics were total busts.
For Vancouver, what happened to Luc was very unfortunate, but the team must continue on.
As for the Leafs, they could have finished a lot lower and gotten into the lottery for the #1 or #2 pick, but for some reason they played well and moved up the overall standings.
COHO might be the start of the Nuck's rebuilding stage.
