And those guys are never gonna come cheaper than $6 mill at least. As it is, we're loaded up on playmakers and grinders.

Sedin/Sedin/Heatley would be a sweet line

But this city hungers for a goal scorer once again. (now that we have a goalie)

That would be a sweet line indeed...
Get rid of Sundin salary, Ohlund salary, and we should be able to afford that top line..might have to pick up a cheaper D to replace Ohlund.
Then just see who gels with who as in CoHo, Kes, Burr,Grabs, Bernier

Neidermyer plz. The guy can move the puck on the back end. Skates better than any one on the back and is faster than alot on the back. He can join the rush too
And to be honest luongo needs extension. I dont see heatley comin here

The only thing scary about Heatley is he doesn't check that much and 7.5m over 5 years is pretty steep. especially if the sedins sign for a long term as well..

Don't forget that next summer, the Canucks will also need new contracts or replacements for Luongo, Kesler, Raymond, Mitchell & Bieksa. Heatley's $7.5 cap hit for another 5 years just doesn't make sense for the Canucks, especially when the cap is expected to decrease after this year and the Sedins need significant raises this summer.
Its all about asset management, I would rather resign the Sedins (hopefully for cap hits between 5 to 6 mil each) than have Heatley at the cost of some good assets (likely a combination of Kesler, Hodgson, Grabner, Raymond, Edler and draft picks).
LOL I'd never figured I would rather have the Sedins over Heatley, but thats the reality of a cap world.

We have Kesler, Burrows and a shit ton other pluggers that are willing to do that job (checking).
Sure everyone wants a Pavol Datsyuk but we're talking the difference between a 30 goals to 50 goals by being a pure goal scorer. We already have a checker that scores in Kes & Bur. We don't need to load up on just 1 type of player. And these type of players will always come at a tag of $6 mill plus. If we never pay up, we'll never see the likes of one except through draft.
Guys the like of Luongo are worth the $6+ mill. Same for Heatley.

Who's to say heatley can score 35+ goals in the west though
At 7 mill he isn't worth it, no one should be paied more than Lu.

At 7 mill he isn't worth it, no one should be paied more than Lu. | Of course there's no guarantees he'll be a 40-50 goal scorer in the west. But your banking the odds on your side though.
And Lu, as good as he is, is not the be-all-end-all solution to the team. Though a great goalie he is, it's been proven that he can't do it all himself. People shouldn't believe the "God" hype that a lot of people place him on.

If you get him locked up long term for under 7 mill a year he is god.

Anyone can learn to play defense but scoring goals is something you can't teach.

I think the smartest move would be to try to trade up in the daft to go after hodgsons brampton line mate he played so well with (I forget his name) The best direction for the canucks to go right now is to start off young. With all the money Gilles is putting into player devolpment (I don't get why they were not before) the young players are the future of the canucks not trading for someone with a crazy contract. In the cap era young is the way to go.

Hit it RIGHT ON.
Focus on YOUNG players that may not be impact players right away but will turn out to be superstars.
