I read the FAQ, along with countless other articles, not to mention 'tips' from other tattooed friends.
It's amazing the wide range of methods people use lol
The wheels are already turning to add onto this one |

have you guys ever paid a deposit somewhere where you didn't like the drawing?
what is the process of getting another drawing done?
I don't know if I'm just getting my leg pulled or if this is procedure, but I put down a deposit and he drew me a piece, but I didn't really like it so I was asking if he can modify it a bit, and he said the deposit I put down is for the drawing, if I decide I want to have it done, then the money goes towards the tattoo. So if I want the drawing redone, I have to put another deposit.
I am stuck in a situation I am really not liking as the drawing he did for me does not look much like what I provided and asked for.

If your artist is asking for another deposit that is bullshit... who is this artist?

Justin Ormiston.
He sent a nice email saying this:
"To clarify, your current $300 deposit pays for the drawing I emailed you. If you get the drawing tattooed, your deposit goes toward your tattoo.
If you want me to redraw your sleeve, your $300 deposit pays for my time spent drawing your first drawing and I will require a second $300 deposit if you want a second drawing. . (and so on)
I take deposits so I am compensated for the time I spend drawing, regardless of whether a client gets tattooed or not."
It is quite unfortunate as I went to him BECAUSE he did a piece I really liked, and when I asked for something similar but altered to not be identical, I was provided something REALLY different.
I am not trying to bash him as he does do some really good work, but I don't know how to move forward with this issue.

That is really unfortunate, and I don't think this isn't going to end nicely... In no way should you have to pay a deposit for him to redraw the tattoo, and in no way should you have to get a tattoo you don't like. That is ridiculous! Especially if all you want are some changes to be made.

Wow, odd coincidence that you should post this today because I was talking to a friend about potentially booking an appointment with him (as said friend's sister's sleeve is by him, and I saw it for the first time last weekend and loved it). Hm. Maybe not.

Well don't let me be the one to stop you as I said above, I do like his work hence why I originally wanted to go to him. But this situation really just put me in a tough situation.
I went in with an idea, 2 photos, and 1 of the photos was his own work. The one piece that wasn't his own I liked, but the piece I asked him to do which was his own work, I really didn't like very much.
It is quite the shame as I have already waited 2 months, got my drawing today, and my appointment was supposed to be next week.
I am going to have to cancel now as I am unhappy with the drawing, and if I end up fighting him on the drawing (he said she said argument), he will just be disgruntled, and I don't want some guy who hates me to work on me.

anyone know his rates and if he has some hidden portfolio somewhere else? | Acrow charges $180/hr with a $300 deposit up front that is deducted from your last session. Haven't found much of his work floating around the net besides website and Instagram.

Sam at Steveston is moving to Calgary on Sep1 and my sister just had another 5 hr sitting with her and she has another on the 15th. She was also placed as top priotity with 4 other people to get an automatic spot every time she comes back. I will post the pics shortly, it looks pretty sweet like the rest of the work she's received so far

a tattoo is something you get for life and its like hes penalizing you for not taking his first drawing, its not like you are going to someone else for a tattoo either, but it sucks that you could be spending more than $600 for nothing if you dont like his next drawing

Time to draw has always been considered the cost of doing business, they use their own time and you don't pay for it. Whatever deposit you put down always goes towards the session. I mean I can understand if you got him to redraw multiple times but this is just plain silly.

Wow, really surprised to hear your situation with Justin. I've never been in the situation where we had to go back to the drawing board with all my tattoos, but it doesn't seem like fair treatment. I mean, if you said you didn't want to go to him, I can understand keeping a deposit, but asking for it to be redrawn/reworked is a common practice and as long as the customer is being reasonable about it, I agree thats just the cost of doing business. I mean they charge me 180 bucks a fucking hour and expect a tip as well, I expect the drawing to be included in that cost. I had a great experience with Justin and he seems like a reasonable guy so I hope it can be worked out. Although I'm not 100% clear, if you pay him 300 bucks again, does that mean you have $600 dollars towards your tattoo or is that first $300 lost. If the case is that it means you had $600 down. I'd gamble and really sit down and clarify what I liked and didn't like, and put the trust in him to redo it. But my thoughts on it are based on the experience that I had with him was great so we already have the artist/client trust established. I can understand why you'd be a little more cautious about it.

Still, that just rubs me the wrong way... Then again, you don't necessarily have to like a tattoo artist's personality to get a good tattoo

I'd be down for that. Sorry to hear about ur experience man that sucks, hopefully you get it fixed. As for cleaning the tattoo, Jesse at stevenston told me to go home and rub the shit outta my tattoo lol literally rub the shit out of it, his words. He's like you wanna get all the access ink and shit outsa there. Then told me to do it again. (But I also fell asleep with the wrap on my tattoo which is why I asked you guys if it would screw it up, it's all healed now and looks fine) After that he's like just follow what you've done the last time, which was use uncented lotion. Says to use 2-3 times a day in the stevenston after care booklet but I only ever did it in the morning and at night when I remembered. Wish I could post some pics but got no idea how lol so maybe at this meet if it goes down.

While in the Quick Reply box select Go Advanced. This will direct you to a new window with the Reply To Thread box at the top and the Additional Options box below it. In the latter box you'll see the sub-heading Attach Files and you'll need to select Manage Attachments under it. This will direct you to another new window. In this window select Choose File and find your pictures. Once you've done that select Upload. Go back to the Go Advance window (which will still be open) and select Submit Reply. Done.
