Trying to decide between Trevor Mackay and Amanda Meowzen for a tiger back piece I'm planning on getting, for those of you that have gotten tattoos from them how did you like them? Who works faster?

Btw, is there anyone here who have had their tattoos for 10-15+ years? I love tattoos, but seeing how horribly disfigured and faded some of the ones I see on much older people are, I'm pretty scared to get a big piece. A lot of people tell me that the ink/needles and techniques are much better than they used to be, but I just need assurance to know that mine won't end up so spread up and faded lol

What style are you looking for? Japanese? I looked at Amanda's portfolio and I think Trevor is better. I have lots of friends that got work done from him and they always say he's a stand up guy; never heard anything bad of him. This is his instagram

Instagram

but if you're getting a tiger done, I would suggest Jesse at Blackwater. I always thought his tigers looked the best.

I have work on me that is 16 years old that still looks better than some peoples 5 year old tattoos. It's all in how you look after it and the skill of the artists application, quality of ink. Sun is your tattoos mortal enemy, protect it from that and you are good.

I would also recommend Trevor Mackay he is a badass tattooist.

Just had an 8 hour session with horiryu at strictlytattoo to take my ink virginity yesterday. Holy fuck that last hour was brutal. I was shaking at the end of the session. Please tell me that shading is easier.

I've only ever done shading in the same session, so it was always much worse. Maybe if it's healed and starting all over again it's actually not as bad.. let us know!

That's a pretty big piece for your first. Way to dive right in. Looks really good. Shading feels more like road rash. I would say that the outline is more painful than shading but it really depends on the artist.

If you were able to withstand that much outlining in one sitting, shading should be a breeze for you. Nice piece btw, lots of nice monkey king tattoo's recently

Thanks. I was actually laughing hysterically when we were done ha! Hopefully its easier. Going in for probably another 8 hour session to get all of the shading in, in 2 weeks.

I think shading is a little worse, but you sat for 8 hours your first session, so basically, you are killing it. It really depends on the spot more than anything for me. Linework sucks but you spend a short time on shitty spots. Shading sucks but you spend a long time on shitty spots which really starts to hurt, but then you spend more time on the mellow spots so you can regain some of your stamina. Basically, getting tattooed is the worst haha.

One more stupid question from me if you guys don't mind, but have any of you started with a piece on your shoulder blade or pec and later had it expanded into a half/full sleeve that's effectively made up or many smaller designs (I'm not sure what the term for it would be, but it isn't one single design)? I know eventually I'll want at least a half sleeve but I'm not entirely sure what I want for the whole thing yet, just one part on my shoulder blade, but I'm not sure if I can do it without having the rest planned out yet.

Basically I want something kind of like this, a fatigued Rebel Alliance insignia outlined in black but blending to a rich red on the inside.

IMO don't worry about 'sleeves' unless your specific wants require one. Just get tattoos!

In my personal opinion, an arm covered in various tattoos looks way better than one big sleeve. Especially since most sleeve designs are typical and a million other people have similar designs. That's just my opinion though, not knocking people who get a big koi fish sleeve and love it.

I feel the same, I just never figured out how people ended up with the various tattoos all in one area so I don't wanna goof it up. Worst case if I want a large single piece later I *do* have another arm.
