yes and no. people that get tribal or koi tattoo becuz its a trend will almost never seek out a good artist that specialize in either tribal or japanese.

what they end up with are meaningless one off tribals and penis kois. Good art will always be good art regardless of trends. Same thing with tribal, real tribal like the poly, style flipino style etc will never go out of style.

right now for females its the little cluster of stars/face stars made popular by Kat Von D.

Arabic is the new kanji.

Inside of the wrist is the new tramp stamp.

What do you mean tattoos he would like? He does not like your concept?

whatitdew 02-02-2011 09:11 PM

Ya good luck buddy I email him like once a year to try and get on his wait list. Only gotten one reply back saying to try again in about a years time lol.

When you get to a certain level of success you get to be picky of the tattoo projects you take on. He only does large pieces that spark is creative interest unless you happen to be a personal friend.

The convention is coming soon so might be a easier way to get in with him.

I remember I tried to get in with him way back when he was still at Sacred Heart, before he was so well known. He was still booked up about a year in advance back then!

How do you get an appointment from him in the first place for the convention? i'm sure big name like steve moore are book throughout the convention. I don't mind waiting years for him if he have a waitlist, but from his website he is just choosing what he wants to do now =\

whatitdew 02-02-2011 09:28 PM

pretty much the same way. Through his email on his website. Just say you are interested ing getting a piece at this years Convention and include details of the piece you want etc.

Thats the whole point of conventions so people can get work from artists they normally couldn't from or artists that are very hard to get appointments with like Steve.

Its just depends sometimes artists don't tattoo much at the conventions they just want to hang out with friends in the industry and have a good time. Other times they tattoo the whole convention.

Its worth a try to email him about his plans for the Vancouver convention and if you could get in with him.

3 of my buddies got work there and every one said they regret it.
had to be re touched several times and all of them said they shoulda gone somewhere else.

realistically and IMHO its a hit and miss with sam, the main tattoo artist there.
some work turns out pretty good, other work turns out like shit.

i would say hes decent, and his artwork is good.

like anything, if he likes the piece hes going to do on you, it'll turn out really well. if he doesn't like what hes going to do on you, he won't do that well.

hence the regret and retouch.

unfortunately thats what happens with different artists..

some artists may not always live up reputation and vice versa.

wingies 02-10-2011 08:18 PM

^^what you need is peter, sam learned from peter. Peter was good like 6 years ago, his latest stuff wasnt too impressive.

fnguyen96 02-10-2011 09:41 PM

isn't peter the guy with long hair?
i heard he was ok, i saw a snake he did and it was alright. but his other stuff was awful.

whast the story behind that relationship?
heard that peter was a druggie
then started shorting out on sam by doing work outside of the shop and charging less. so less money went to sam and the shop?

now sam took the shop in?

dlo 02-10-2011 09:48 PM

^ any chance that the snake you saw he did was on a girl?

fnguyen96 02-10-2011 09:55 PM

^ nah on a guy. wasn't that good

dlo 02-10-2011 10:05 PM

meh, maybe i am being biased, but floating world's work look pretty bad to me.. i dont like the styles, and i believe in tattoo rules such as kois pointing up and etc, but their work seems sloppy.. check out another place

whatitdew 02-11-2011 12:10 AM

judging from the work they have up on their website, ya stay the hell away from Floating World!!! for starters that they cant even spell sleeve right! lol.

It amazes me sometimes how many shitty tattoo shops stay in business due to first timers and bargain hunters.

but really I shouldn't talk as I got a lot of BS work when i was young and not doing my research.

On a side note I have decided to get my next piece from Ken Greer at Fat City Tattoo. Right chest/rib panel, gonna be a doozy!

Vansterdam 02-11-2011 06:33 AM

floating worlds has gone real down hill lol all the girls tell mes the guys a creep to
