I think the worst part of getting a tattoo is the healing process........ I always get so nervous.....

I never really had much issue with my ribs except for the bottom rib around the front (that hurts) maybe it's due to my longest sitting for my ribs being around 3 1/2 - 4 hours. I think my shoulder blade getting shaded in was the most painful for me, started at 5 hours into my sitting and finished it at the 6 hour point so maybe that had something to do with it.

Shoulders just suck dick in general lol my next sleeves include shoulders again,, sigh it was brutal

i think we can establish at this point that tattoos IN GENERAL dont feel good
and thats a good thing
cause if it were easy everyone would have them,
and that would suck.

haha.

on a serious note i really think its such a sell out when people use numbing cream. Pain is part of the process, beside the cream interferes with the tattooing process.

dlo 03-30-2013 04:10 PM

iunno some part doesnt hurt for me... the shoulder is just unbearable for me.. i feel like im literally, slowly dying haha

westopher 03-30-2013 08:50 PM

Same here. Top of the shoulder is a disaster for me. Worse than the ribs.

Peturbo 03-31-2013 08:37 PM

While top of the shoulder where the bone is really hurt as well, I was able to just grin it off.
Ribs took every ounce of strength I had to keep myself from jumping off the table/seat from shear pain.
For me there was this one area front-mid section where the eye is that was just terrifying for me.

Not just that - the designs themselves are the opposite of 'timeless'. Think along the likes of barbed wire or tribal bands... You can put a date on them - the hipster movement of the 2010's.

In 30 years these will be worn by dudes who went through a left winged/libertarian atheist artsy iphone using phase that they probably eventually grew out of once they got a career and family going ;)

(ps that was just a joke generalization, don't be mad)

lol i think u guys got me wrong. i wouldn't get those specific things tattood on me.
but i like the way it's shaded, and some of the background patterns.

http://i.imgur.com/A3TXry1.png
like the turquoise pattern in this guy's arm (lol that's all i like in this)

http://a3.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/i...ef7e23e9/l.jpg
and how the colors on this one bleed out into other patterns (just that aspect of how the ink is "layered" kinda like using layers on photoshop).

like how the main focus point could be anything, just how they're laid down kinda layered over one another.

like i wouldn't get cartoons, pop icon/symbols and Bambi lol that shit is too kiddy.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_JcpP6nT4Mb...n+tattoo+3.jpg
thinking more something like that, but a little more on the artistic side.

I like patterns and repeating fractal type stuff like:
http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/..._tattoo(4).jpg
http://neomagic5.files.wordpress.com.../tattoo-05.jpg
http://cdn.indulgy.com/Ll/L3/vu/1699...4TkKLddMJc.jpg

i just have to find a method to meld them all together in an aesthetic and meaningful way.

Everyones got sick pieces in this thread!
Please help out a BCIT student and do a survey about tattoo/tattoo removals?
your guys insight would be most valuable since you guys are all inked!
thanks so much! Tattoo Questionnaire

SkinnyPupp 03-31-2013 10:19 PM

Ulic there's no need to defend your position.. that's the thing about art, we all like different styles. I think what most people are saying is that not all art translates to long lasting (both in terms of actual durability as well as style) tattoos well.

In any case, if you like that style and want to commit, you might want to look up Arlin at Gastown tattoo

Ulic Qel-Droma 03-31-2013 11:38 PM

i wasn't defending... i was just explaining the aspects of it i found were cool. and maybe you guys would see the same aspect and see something new from the same picture.

i didn't even begin to think those were hipster tattoos lol (but now i can see they totally would be the stuff hipsters wear lol!) i was more like they're something i'd see on tumblr or deviantart. i just didn't want you guys thinking i wanted to tattoo goku on myself or something... although... if i were a hipster i would totally do that.

i was more just looking for feedback, or maybe someone else likes the same stuff, i duno.

like i find this stuff super cool too. monotone repeating edged shaped stuff. maybe less ink and more skin though.

westopher 04-01-2013 12:03 AM

When I think of "hipster" tattoos, I think of tremendously bad randomly placed attempts at old school designs. Those examples of tattoos Ulic posted I think is a really cool and original take on using negative space and no line work to make it look like paint on a canvas. I think if the concept for a cool tattoo is there the style will hold up over time.

now this kind of stuff i like, its evolve upon traditional tribal work. look up thomas hooper but don't fall in love with his work because you will probably never get an appointment with him lol.

on another note my foot tattoo is done in similiar dotwork style, the dotworks were super super easy to heal and for those that are more pain sensitive alot less painful than than shading with mag needles

SkinnyPupp 04-01-2013 02:55 AM

Ulic that stuff is so different from what you were posting ;)

Yup I was obsessed with Thomas Hooper's work for a while, then just gave up because it will NEVER HAPPEN :okay:

Adorkami 04-01-2013 05:43 PM

i like the turquoise design on that guys arm also, looks like an easy way to tie together multiple tattoos as long as the design isn't too different. Dammit, my back isn't even complete and I'm already thinking about what to get next... Hey skinny I heard some places in asia are a bad idea to get a tattoo because it's so new in certain places. Other than Japan what asian countries are good for tattoos?

SkinnyPupp 04-01-2013 09:44 PM

Any place can be good or bad, it depends on the artist not the country

whatitdew 04-02-2013 06:45 PM

Just to clear this up there is no such thing as a "hipster Tattoo" and tribal/barbwire/kanji all that ish was big in the late 90's early 2000's. One of my few tattoo regrets is getting the classic "skin rips" now thats some 90's tattooing right there! lol

Some serious hitters at the Convention this year, wish the dentist wasn't taking all my money this month! gonna stock up on shop shirts tho. Hope to enter some work at next years event.

This guy is gonna be there, very similar style to Kore Flatmo. Would love to get a piece by him.
