awesome piece! I was wondering how many hours did it take to complete ur piece and horiryus rates?

Best to hit up his shop and talk to him about what you want. He does charge by piece and depending how big you are the times will vary. My buddy is 5'10 230lb ish. Half sleeve to chest. About 17 hours
mine was about 13 hours but I don't have bg on my mine and I'm much skinnier.

Quickfini 10-29-2013 07:05 PM

Mine was 3 sessions, 15 hours total. I'm 5'11" and about 180 lb or so for reference.

Horiryu also did my sisters back piece which was really nice as well. He does some good work. Check out his shop and you can check out all his sketches plastered on his wall too for some ideas.

I would choose Horiryu over Cohen Floch and Jeff Tam any day.

dlo 10-29-2013 07:23 PM

dam thats a good list of artists to go to haha, horiyu or cohen IMO

Adorkami 10-29-2013 07:32 PM

Ryan Halter is mainly old school but he still does a good japanese tattoo and is super fast. For traditional I'd stick with Horiryu (I'm biased because he did my back). I also think his apprentice will soon be coming back to Vancouver, he does pretty good work and i'm assuming cheaper than his teacher

truth 10-29-2013 07:55 PM

have my first 3 hour session to start my half sleeve this weekend, do you guys usually tip every session or at the end? and what's the norm?

Recon604 10-29-2013 08:03 PM

tippin every session

dlo 10-29-2013 08:19 PM

ill tip at the end, depends on what you think is reasonable, did 10 hours, tipped an extra hr pree much

Timewav3zer0 10-29-2013 08:50 PM

I tipped the first session, and they told me not to tip. They didn't charge me tax on my last couple sessions haha

604dragon 10-29-2013 09:10 PM

who would you guys recommend for coloured jap pieces? been looking at horiryu, cohen, and jeff tam and they all have amazing artwork but im looking for the best in terms of coloured work and quality .

dlo 10-29-2013 09:45 PM

horiryu hands down for coloured IMO

Hondaracer 10-29-2013 10:03 PM

is it proper to ask the artist how they operate? like do most just operate cash deals or what?

dlo 10-29-2013 10:08 PM

most artist take cash only lol, never heard of an artist taking debit/credit ever

Adorkami 10-29-2013 10:10 PM

instagram is great for checking out a tattoo artist:

horiryutattoo
jeff_tam_monkeyking
cohenflochtattoo
horiyoshi_3 (can dream)

Adorkami 10-29-2013 10:12 PM

never been charged tax, and i've only paid cash though. If they claimed everything on taxes they'd make a lot less.

Lol wut? Tattoo shops are businesses man. If its an artist with a personal studio maybe its cash only, but I've never been in a shop that doesn't take credit cards. Ormiston was talking about giving up taking credit cards last time I was up there though because they upped the fees, but in a world where no one has cash anymore its pretty limiting.

SkinnyPupp 10-29-2013 10:38 PM

Cash only, since I don't have a credit card reader in my kitchen :derp:

Hori Tsugu seems to do some really nice stuff too. From the looks of it, he works at the same place as Horiryu?

Hah I was thinking the same as you, I wanted a jap half sleeve and was between Cohen and Jeff but I never heard of horiryu till I saw quickfini post and his work looks amazing.

Fafine 10-29-2013 10:46 PM

Because horiryu charged by piece I tipped at the end.
My second tat from him he gave me a t-shirt and I didn't even tip him. Instead I bought a jacket for his son haha
