Friend of mine got a pretty cool tattoo I thought, no pics but what she did was get voice recordings from her parents and sister and used those sound waves to create trees for the tattoo kind of in like a Japanese style, it turned out really great Posted via RS Mobile |

seems kinda random to ask on here but I ll share anyways.
I m currently applied for electrician course starting september and I m having second thoughts. My tattoo artist has offered me to go to Taiwan with him and learn his work.
He will be visiting this upcoming summer and if I do decide to be his apprentice then I will fly back with him. now I dont know how long I will have to learn but I m guessing I would atleast have to learn how to draw and everything for 2-3 years? before I even start holding a tattoo gun.
tbh for both electrician and tattoo I m a noob. I only enjoy getting inkd but I know nothing about it.
theres definitely alot of pros and cons to both fields.
what do you guys think?

I'd say that if you are having a hard time deciding between being an electrician or a tattoo artist... be an electrician.

well, Thats definitely what my parents would like me to be vs tattoo artist.
but I know deep down I would take tattooing as a career over electrician anyday.
even if that means more learning and more time to become even just an average artist.
I just want to see if you guys got any feedback on the pros and cons.
in my parents view its that, electrician is a straight arrow job. not saying people that gets ink are all bad but there are that %.

It's not that one is a 'normal' job or not.. like how much were you into art before this? I guess everyone is different, but I don't picture many tattoo artists going "yeah I was gonna be an electrician but this opportunity came up so I took it instead"
When it comes to art, I think you have to be somewhat obsessed to really excel at it.

true, I suck at drawing and I never had interest in it.
I appreciate the art work but I never thought about actual drawing.
but I guess same goes for electrcian, its not something I wanted to do either, I just applied because I m not getting any younger and should hop on a trade so I can feed myself.

Makes me wonder about your artist, who is willing to take on an apprentice who "sucks at drawing" and "never had an interest" in it |

my artist is fine if your wondering skinny, many locals got work done by him and are very satisfied with it.
he just gave me the option of learning it because we've became good friends.
as to the tattoo career, I ll have to really give it some thoughts.

Do what you want to do. Some opportunities only come once in a lifetime. If you feel you have the drive and potential for success then go take the apprenticeship. Just remember that you will have to work harder than everyone else since you have little foundation to work with and will have to spend most hours of the day mastering your craft. It will be a long process (more than the 2-3 years you are estimating), but if this is truly something you are passionate about then it will be all worth it in the end. Best of luck!
