I hear monkey king is the best for japanese style tattoos. Is this correct?

Not sure about "best" but Jeff has a good reputation for the style.
As an alternative check out the artist I use: JARRET CLARKSON TATTOOS

NO.

Or yes...

It depends on your preference. Look at his portfolio and decide for yourself.

Problem is I dont know what to look for. Im looking to do japanese art....more specifically im looking to do a samarai warrior piece on my back. I would assume going to an artist specializing in asian artwork would be a no brainer?? Also have the same artist do asian lettering as well

white rocket 05-28-2014 01:25 PM

^^^best thing to do is to look through artists portfolios. search for "Traditional Japanese Vancouver" or something like that and see what comes up. Or search the image/tat you want to get some ideas from others, local or not. A samurai warrior is not an uncommon tat so I'm sure any traditional Japanese artist could do something up for you. Some people are very specific about what they want while others are more focused on the artist themselves and would rather let them come up with a design.

If you want an aggro looking tattoo to make you look badass, then go to Jeff Tam. His stuff always looks so mean.

If you want something more traditional looking, check out some other artists who do Japanese, Horiryu or Shoko from our FAQ

Here's a quick comparison of similar subject matter, a foo dog arm tattoo:

As you can see his style is more comic book (though I'm sure he can do traditional if you ask).

who has done the nicest tiger piece locally that you have ever seen in your own opinion? I really enjoy that one posted above by Chad, great colours but not really enjoying the rest of his portfolio. Likewise, I love jeff tam and jesse from blackwaters work and style but dont really enjoy all the tiger pieces that I have seen from them so far . Looking to spin off some ideas for an awesome tiger half sleeve (coloured) so if you've seen a great one locally or online please share! thanks

dr.funk 05-28-2014 08:39 PM

his stuff is really insane. this tiger is not done but his colour and the way he creates his work is off he chain im going to him to get my left arm and legs done

this has nothing to do with design..but so hot

if its gonna hurt like a "bitch", would that deter you from getting a tattoo?

I'm not sure, I don't really follow a lot of artists especially local to Vancouver. Besides my opinion doesn't really matter anyway... For me, I am more into dark, high contrast 'inky' tattoos as opposed to brightly coloured ones or delicately designed ones... Everyone has their own style. Find yours, find a good artist who you jive with, and go for it

ilovebacon 05-29-2014 01:27 AM

Does it matter if it's summer or winter to get a tattoo done? I heard that it is better to get a tattoo done in winter was it will heal better than summer use to sweat and the sun light something like that...???? And btw does anyone have more pics of tigers?

zilley 05-29-2014 01:46 AM

I dont really care when I get it done, as long as you do the proper healing process I think its fine.

for my opinion on tigers, I think alot of artists cant do a tiger properly.

I ve seen so many with weird body forms and faces that looks like a mountain cat or some sort of mutant. many just looks awkward. the theme is there, but just something off about them.

Nope. I've been thinking of getting it the last 5 years. My recent breakup with my gf made me take a look at how my life progressed since I was a kid and this tattoo just signifies my whole life. This tattoo is going to be my bday present to myself

murd0c 05-29-2014 07:35 AM

Sam from Steveston Tattoo called my sister with a last minute cancellation and she got this done in a 6 hour sitting

Is that thing really that bright in real life?

Because wow I fucking love it!

murd0c 05-29-2014 01:32 PM

yup it's exactly that bright in real life, it's puffy and swollen in that pic so it looks even better now. Shes never going to sit for that long again, her arm was sore for 3-5 days lol

MindBomber 05-29-2014 02:00 PM

I like Sam's work. It's too bad she's not taking new bookings for the next while now.
