by any chance do you have a link/tutorial bookmarked on your computer, before i start looking it up on hofo?

and also, will it affect my current applications installed on my phone? ie, i wont have to reinstall my games, and delete my SMS's will it?

thanks

If you do a the Nokia backup service thing for the PC Sync program, it will back up everything for you.
Applications, however will sometimes not install properly but stay as "Not installed" in the "App. Manager" Most of the time, you can just re-install it like that but some programs, you would have to reinstall from scratch.
Usually, if the application is saved to the memory card, it will still work when you do a firmware upgrade/update. (Unless the program is unsigned or installed via Carbide Hack).

Be careful with backups though, as it's good to have your calendar, contacts, etc. synced back, but I highly recommend not backing up the programs (a.k.a. "files on phone" in the Backup app) and reinstalling them manually. Restoring a backup of those also restores bits of the previous firmware, which could make things rather ugly. It did when I upgraded my E71's firmware lol

Its even worse if you backup phone files when your phone is hacked! Since the new firmware cant be hacked yet, some files and programs get "frozen" and cant be installed or removed, but show up on the menu lists.

lol I know. Happened when I tried to upgrade my friend's N95-2. hahahah

Hmm..I stumbled upon this interesting site with apps and other shit for S60. Some of you might find it useful.

bottom of page 2 teaches you how to make your phone read chinese, without flashing it
so far, it works on nokia's default browser, msn, and sms's
no luck on opera mini yet

somewhere in the thread is also a program that makes your phone type chinese, im still testing it out rite now

+Kardboard+ 01-10-2009 05:20 PM

You can read CJK easily. I posted how here too. Just change the system font with a Unicode one like Arial Unicode and you can read everything. Interesting to hear about a program that enables input though.

Not like I would know how or be able to read the output LOL :lol

got a problem, i have a 2gb card but the phone doesnt seem to detect it, i tried popping it out and back in but still nothing...
anyone know whats up?

hongy 01-11-2009 07:31 PM

^^ try formatting the card through your phone

tripleA 01-11-2009 07:37 PM

how do i do that when the phone doesnt detect the card at all??
it says "no memory card inserted" when i go to memory

+Kardboard+ 01-11-2009 08:30 PM

Format it in your computer first, then try formatting in your phone.

RCubed 01-11-2009 08:40 PM

^
Note. Format using a Windows computer cuz I found formatting it with a Mac, even under FAT, doesnt work properly in most devices.

trdees 01-12-2009 05:06 PM

anyone notice sometimes u get the camera error where it says camera in use by other application.. gets fucken annoying anyone know how to fix it?

kayceeee 01-12-2009 05:20 PM

Anyone know of a program that's like voip? Like I can just use my data to make calls without using my minutes? Preferably free lol

Wow I highly recommend the Handy tools as someone mentioned before in this thread I think. Handy Profiles sets up timed activations so during school it wont screw you over and it this location thing where it knows what cell its using and changes the profile to whatever your liking. Smartconnect is super helpful as it will always pick the wifi signal over data then it streamlines to w/e is available for seamless switching of entry points. I am loving this phone like mad. Reasons like this make me always want to stay with Nokia.

Oh and what screwdrivers are you guys using to open this thing up? I went to Princess Auto and the T6 was too big so I assume the T5 is it. Besides getting raped at some fancy electronic shop is there someplace else that has it? Checked CT and Home Depot with no luck. I got a OEM White english keyboard from cnn and i wanna install on my grey steel e71. hybrid phones ftw.
