Now, I'm a lifeguard and swim instructor, and most of my hours are spent teaching. For lessons, instructors are expected to be in the water, smiling and having fun with the kids while teaching them how to swim. This guy, I've never seen him break out in a smile, only a smirk, in the 2 months I've worked with him. He has never gotten his upper chest in the water, much less his hair. He complains about how shitty all the kids swim, then does nothing to correct them, but decides to make them swim non stop for the whole lesson without any feedback or correction. He demands pool space from me and other instructors when teaching, and is pissed when I tell him my class level is more suited for the area. For his lower levels, he expects way too much, then yells at the kid when they can't do it. I.e. Swim Kids 1, the VERY FIRST LEVEL, and he's pissed that some of his kids can't kick out to him. IT"S THE FIRST GODDAMN LEVEL, SOME OF THEM HAVE NEVER TOUCHED POOL WATER BEFORE. Today, he brought a beginner preschool class, which has 3-5 year olds, to the deep end. He then sits on a mat, and tells the kids to jump and swim to him. Got mad when some of them couldn't. I cannot.. comprehend. He also has this high and mighty attitude, thinking he's always right. I.e. today I got a swimming tether and brought it to work to test. It's basically a 15 metre bungee cord that you try to swim a 25 metre pool with, and it gets harder as you go further. He sees me trying it, then tells me how to use it. I tell it's how I did it in swim club for over 10 years, then he goes, "No, you're wrong, you walk down to the end and someone pulls you back while you swim so you feel like you're going fast." No. You're wrong. FUCK. YOU. Who says that?
The one thing that drove me over the edge today is when he pulled one of my students into the water. Dude, it's my class, don't touch my kids. The guy is 5 years old, and all he did was splash you. Here's what went down.
Kid is sitting on edge, right at the drop off of the deep and shallow.
Asshat passes by, and kid playfully splashes him.
Asshat: You seriously gonna splash me kid? Don't do it again, or I'll pull you into the water.
Kid laughs, and flicks more water at him.
Asshat grabs him by the leg, and pulls him in to the water. A five year old boy. Into the deep end. WHAT THE FUCK.
I saw what happened and nearly lose my shit.
"Did you just pull my kid into the water?"
Asshat: "Yeah, he splashed me." <- sounds like a pussy ass bitch
"Doesn't give you right to freakin' yank him in. What if he couldn't swim?"
"Whatever."
I've had enough of this shit. I'm writing a very long and elaborate email to my supervisors soon, and have this shithole dealt with. I don't want him around, my coworkers don't like him, the pool doesn't want him to drag down the rep of fun instructors, and the parks board shouldn't hire buttplugs like him. Fuck. This. Guy.
