True friendships endure, no matter the distance or the time constraints. You'll just have less of them as you get older. There simply isn't time to maintain all friendships to the same degree when life gets in the way.

Besides, the only friendship that should matter in the end is the one between you and your spouse/partner.

For VPD/RCMP, it's not so much the friendship, it's what they do in their lives.. That probably being an illegal substance or doing something illegal. During the intake process it's quite extensive and they dig into all your friends and family. And anything they dig up from them, shines a bad light on you aswell.

Well, it's probably a blessing in disguise as it's a good idea to start to shed negative influences as you get older. Invest in your time in people who add value to your life.

At the end of the day, do what's best for you... I am no police officer but personally I try not to associate with people who do "shady" things just because I'm a judgmental prick like that (srs).

That being said, I am sure your friendship is important, but what YOU want should be more important. This is your dream job and you can easily clear $100k/year with a moderate amount of overtime; pull a little more than that, and you'll be earning enough to buy a house in the GVRD and raise a family all by yourself. With a spouse who makes anywhere near that, you are living quite well.

Maybe I'm more "detached" but I think being able to have that kind of future surpasses any friendship... have you tried talking to your friend about their illegal activity? Who knows, maybe they'll hear you out and cut that crap out of their life.
