Quoting my own post here... Still haven't fired him.

I'm surprised how much I learned at school actually applies. Regardless of which, it doesn't make the decision any easier.

When this said friend FINALLY shows up to work, he questions everything I do, even if the reason is TO MAKE THE CLIENT HAPPY. That being said, when he does show up, the workload is a lot easier to manage, and he actually gets shit done. Only issue is, he doesn't show up half the time.

Struggle.

It must be nice to have friends, instead of just people you know.

That's pretty messed up to refer a friend to a job. Then have him not show up half the time. Is he 15 lol?

Unfortunately he's 19. He always gave me shit about how BCIT is the easier UBC. Please. Clearly, BCIT taught us things that common people don't know - the grind.

I think the most annoying thing is that I expected him to be an adult and be able to work with little to no rules. Given that it's a small business, it's a very casual environment. But I don't know how the fuck anyone would not think to call in if you're not coming to work. We're very big on flexibility, but to not show up for the entire week is just irresponsible.

I feel like I should have done a better job creating norms and rules. On the other hand, when I removed him as project lead (cause unreliability) and started to micromanage, that's when he went MIA.

What makes it all so shitty is that he's my best friend (who also has all my detailing supplies) and he's as unreliable as my e46.

Eyeopener of a date today, with a pity tease. Fuck my life.

dapperfied 09-18-2017 01:24 PM

When the boss announce that our office lease is ending 2019 and the location where you're living is on the books. If it get's finalize as time gets near, saving time and money on commute to work is gonna be so much win. Here's to 5 min walk to work.

:awwyeah:

Also, fuck the kids who are too pussy to be step foot into Surrey because of "gangs". lol.

BIC_BAWS 09-20-2017 06:15 PM

Update 3: Guy finally came back to work today - with an attitude. Fucking pmo, trying to have a constructive conversation about what needs to be fixed, and he just storms out.

I just checked, ffs, for the 3 hrs he was there, he did no work.

I wish he was pro bono LOL or at least a contractor. Yesterday, I told him that he can either leave his attitude at home/tell me what's going on or submit his hours and that's the end of his employment. He resigned this morning.

Guess that's the end of my 15(?) year friendship LOL

Don't hire your friends

SpeedStars 09-21-2017 11:24 AM

New management states our Monday work week starts at 6am and ends at 7pm. :fulloffuck: . So glad I'm leaving this hellhole

dude, you befriended this guy when he was 4 y/o (you mentioned he was 19)? How'd you guys manage to stay bess frangs for nearly 80% of his life and not know he's a shit head worker? Sorry but that kinda sounds like it's partly on you.

I've had exclusive relationships with salads for like 3 months and I already knew I should stay away from being friends with them 'cause you don't make friends with salads. Didn't take me 15 years to figure that out.

ZN6 09-21-2017 03:46 PM

Well, I have a clear conscience and girl from Korea left without incident. My dick isn't tainted but at the same time, I think I lost my Korean pen pal since dinner and drinks was as far as I wanted to go - had to admit I belong to someone else.

No more getting lured by MILFs from Washington State either. I'm sticking with who I have and the one I truly want to be with.

Spoiler!

Oh no, I knew he was unreliable - to a certain extent. But at the same time, I figured if I give him some kind of rules, he'd be a decent person and not try to take advantage of the system. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt due to his circumstances, which is why, it took several weeks pending the end of his employment.

I did mention somewhere that I probably should have enforced stricter rules way earlier on. Though I have learned that due to an established informal relationship, things are way harder than what it should have been.

I'm mad at the whole situation because he was given the opportunity (two weeks) to speak up about what's wrong, whether that be family or work. But he chose not to until I told him he can either leave his attitude at the door, or submit his hours and we'll call it the end of his employment.

One of our partnering firms have a great method of resolving conflict. When shit happens, say something about it, and don't let it build up. They actually talk about it and not act like complete children - which is what I tried to do.

I think the most annoying thing is that this friend is in this position due to unfortunate circumstances. Given our relationship, I have tried to help him, whether that be through free textbooks to supplement learning, giving him a job, or even letting him use my detailing stuff. But time after time, he has chosen to be a child.

Honestly, I'm kind of done with this. I just think he needs to grow the fuck up and give me my detailing supplies back. My car has been filthy since RS meet. Good thing I didn't lend him my Griot's polisher...

lol, but ill update with my situation, we both decided to end it. it was too much for us, we didn't want to lie to our friend (still doesn't know) and she didn't want to commit anymore. It was fun while it lasted though. were still friends? idk i haven't talked to her in like 2 weeks so yea...

How hard would it for a CBC to survive in HK without being able to read and write Chinese?

Would i be limited to labour jobs?
I don't have a "Degree"
I have a Red Seal in a trade tho........

ideally I would have HK ID as I could go beg my father to help me go get my ID if needed.

I could crash at my aunt's place for 6 months if need be or until I get on my feet so i'm not really worried about housing.

in a perfect world I would like to be doing what I'm doing now but in HK
Car Related business. either be working on cars or selling car parts.

someone please just tell me I can't do it and I wouldn't survive

You look like Asian? they will treat you like Asian.... OH, what? you don't speak Chinese. People will look at you funny. (This is where you wish you kept going to Chinese school back in high school).

OH, you want a job cause of your awesome English? Well, wait... you want the good X-Pat salaries? errrr But you're asian.. sorry, we much rather hired a non CBC looking dude instead. Yes... It still happens.

Labor jobs are at 11000 HKD - 15000 HKD.. Good luck with that.

You don't need a degree to get a job, but then, you'll be competing with 10k HKD jobs (a month)

90% of the dudes in HK don't give a shit about red seal, "Can you fix it or not, and is it cheap" is what Asian care about.

Crashing at your relatives place is the WORSE IDEA ever, you're living in a 300-500 sq ft place. Oh you want to party hard and come home; good luck having relatives being nice to you when you wake everyone up.

OH, try living in HK when it's winter... its cold.. NOT that cold, but when it hit 14-16 degrees with no heat at home.. that sucks.

All my friends had the same dilemma when they were in HK. Take it with a grain of salt.

ilovebacon 09-22-2017 06:07 PM

so i managed to find a part time job that pays well!
The director is anticipating on giving me more hours because hes concern that i might leave soon for another opportunity. overall i love the work i do and the general task that i am being given.

I am well honest with him too, telling him that i do have more opportunities out there that is bound to come my way and this was yesterday.

Today I get a call from Toronto, saying that they love my portfolio. They want me to go through an online assessment to determine their final decision.

I feel so happy that things are finally falling together, its happening so quick that i am overwhelmed with excitement and told Mr.Toronto that i wanted more money than what they offered.

Its crazy!

The problem is, if i continue to say with this part time job. I will make more than moving to Toronto.
Moving to Toronoto on the other hand, will let me experience things alone and learn as much as i can.

decision, decisions...

What would you guys do?

Both of these jobs are related to the field FYI.

I was in HK for a month for travel. It's one thing to travel for leisure and another to actually live/work in that culture. I'm here bitching about 5 days/ week @ 40 hours. People there work like 6-7 days per week @ 10-12 hour days. Feels like there is no life in HK besides the daily grind of working since cost of living is so high there.
