anyone use anything for dry scalp?

went and got my hair cut on the weekend and the chick who usually cuts my hair said she had never seen my scalp so dry and to stop using the shampoo i'm using ASAP [nioxin] so now i picked up some of the Nizoral which she said is very good and i tried a while ago, but my scalp seems so dry that its actually contributing to loss, need to solve it asap

i use nizoral and nioxin.. i use nioxin nightly and nizoral 2ice a week... make sure you condition with a good conditioner.. ie woodys

Is Nizoral a temporary solution to fixing the dry scalp?

nizoral is mainly used for people with scalp conditions like dandruff.. if you have dry scalp, i would actually use something more moisturizing as nizoral can leave the hair and scalp even more dry...

well i cant keep using nioxin because that seems to be the culprit to my dry scalp even though i only use it like 3-4 times a week

any other recommendations for a normal hydrating shampoo?

How would you guys diagnose a receding hair line? I'm not sure how this thought popped in my head but I've been thinking about it all day and I'm trippin out that I'm turning bald. I have quite a lot of hair and recently I've been growing it quite long so my bangs cover most of my forehead and I don't recall what it looked like when I cut it short. So, I looked in the mirror pulled my bangs back and almost shit my pants; it looked like the pictures I saw when I googled "receding hairline"... Should I see a dermatologist about this? I turned 20 not that long ago, so I'm still pretty young.

dont you have pics of when you had your hair short? recedin hairlines do not always mean you are going to go bald though, although it could be a sign

i picked up some "Organix shampoo" from london drugs, it is suppose to be totally organic and has tea tree oils, green tea, and some other extract in it and it claims to rehydrate hair, so i'm gonna be trying this out for a bit i guess

but when you are receding at like 20 (like me), then it will mean you will become bald much earlier than the average joe.

anybody try anti dht shampoos?

essentially, that is what nioxin is.. so it claims.. there are others out there but i have not tried those yet.. the probably is dht in the follicle though, usually shampoos (i think most shampoos that dont even claim to remove dht), wash surface dht anyways... you have to prevent the dht from attaching to the follicles in the first place.. that is what propecia does... that is why i suggested those to try taking saw palmetto for the dht. google why saw palmetto has a good chance of working the same way as propecia, but it is natural

if you have dandruff and want a very good product that wont dry out your scalp etc, try out ducray products..

also, i have the ducray elution hair and scalp repairing shampoo... use the elution formula if you have issues from nioxin or nizoral drying out your hair.. i have been using it for 2 days and already notice less itching and dryness and my hair isn't dry anymore... nioxin has been known to dryout my hair sometimes

I stopped using nioxin, combed my scalp with olive oil to remove all the flaking scalp then used nizoral two times a week and an all natural moisturzizing shampoo, scalp is wayyy better and hair looks alot better too, doesn't look good when I get my hair cut though but once it's dry and shorter barely noticeable thinning, and I originally noticed the thinning like 4 years ago now?

I dont think I could ever get into the idea of putting olive oil eggs or anything like that in my hair/ on my head lol

I stay away from ALL mainstream brands, like fructis, alberto, head and shoulders etc... they have way too much chemicals in their ingredients which cannot be good for your scalp... most of the shampoos and or drugs in general mask the issue and don't treat the underlying problem

lol it was actually recomended by my doctor just for the initial treatment for getting rid of all the flaking completely because it instantly moisturizes your scalp and free's up all the scaling

i dont remember if this was posted, but apparently costco, or even online, has generic minoxidil for cheap... 6 months for 30 bucks, cheap. worth a try and you arent spending much to give it an over the counter shot...

Anyone have side effects they got from using minoxidil 5%? Got some prescribed by my doctor and I read up about it online and now I'm kinda scared to use it... I read that it could cause more hair loss.

the initial shedding is normal.. it basically turns the follicles "active" again.. so the ones that lose the hair regrow...

the side effects are pretty minor.. and rare... you are probably risking just as much taking any other over the counter medication.
