i was reading about this "back door method"
have you heard about it? are people still able to get their bba's by doing this?

http://www.revscene.net/forums/sfu-b...s-t418468.html

I've also thought about econ and business minor. What kind of job opportunities are there with this designation?

edit*
on another note, do people know how many times i'm able to repeat a course?

wow, that's from 2006. I'm sure SFU has made some changes to prevent people from doing that?

edit* You can do a course 2 times i believe.

Come join the G lot club :D except I'm starting to see a couple break ins once in a while in G lot... not a good sign.

No way lol
G lot = 2x farther as well as less vacant spaces. I see G lot gest pretty full now wherever B lot always has spaces open at the end near G lot side.

Just have to live with it..

ahh i was wondering if anyone else had experience with that, haha
was worth a try,
i'll have to check with the advisor regarding repeating classes

Yeah I know :( I guess I'm cheap lol I prefer to walk an extra 5 minutes and get the $120 difference in my pocket :p

It feels like they keep trying to cram more and more cars into G lot... though the spots are wider than B lot.

You can repeat a course 2x freely, and can retake no more than 5 courses over the course of your degree. Any more and you have to go get permission from the dean.

backdoor bba and minor is now no longer allowed. they changed the rules just this semester.

Backdoor BBA’s:

For students who are currently attempting to complete a business plan or BBA by the “back door” method, please note the following:

* If you have 3 upper division BUS courses taken at SFU, 1 of which is a business core course, successfully completed by the end of Summer 09, you will be permitted to continue with the back door minor by registering on the 5th day of classes, space permitting and pre-requisites met.

* If you have successfully completed all 300 level upper division business core courses and 1 400-division BUS course at SFU by the end of Summer 09, you will be permitted to continue with the back door major* or joint major** by registering on the 5th day of classes, space permitting and pre-requisites met.

got it from their site. so I guess summer 2009 was the last time

Thanks for the info,
so is anyone else taking Cmpt 165 next term? I thought it was an easy course but after doing more research people have mixed feelings about it. I know this has to do with html. Mind you I have created my own personal website before but this was with dreamweaver. Using dreamweaver i've gained some basic knowledge about html.

Thoughts about this course?

TVD 12-17-2009 01:57 AM

Damn someone I knew just made it in time with that backdoor method. No wonder so many Computer Science students were taking their joint business degrees in the summer...

yeah... you won't need dreamweaver at all. if you've done basic html like in infotech in high school, it'll be the easiest course you've ever taken haha.

but yeah, i hope you're not planning on doing accounting in business cause it's 3.5 cgpa just to stay in that concentration lol

python is pretty annoying but its not that hard. make sure to take cmpt 165 in class and not through DE. it is a lot harder through DE in my opinion.

From what I've heard CMPT 165 used to be realllly easy but they made it slightly harder now (like ARCH 100). Still both easy courses though.

Apparently IAT 100 is even easier, but you have to go to Surrey for it... all projects, no exams. HTML and Photoshop stuff.

Ikkaku 12-17-2009 06:23 AM

last one at noon! I better not fuck this one up too! :lol

BTW all lot permits except for rideshare and some other (forgot what it was.. weekend only?) are sold out. No point debating what to get lol

same as when i took it years ago. 2 projects using photoshop. you alternate one week learning how to use photoshop and the other week it's a "lecture". i just surfed the web for the entire 3 hours every lecture. i got the textbook but it's literally a comic book when i was taking it.

ended up with A I believe.

G 12-17-2009 10:45 AM

i just took cmpt165 and arch100... cmpt165 i dropped from a 95% to 82% after final exam hahaha, i forgot to put python code writeup on my cheat sheet for the final exam (which u are allowed) and im like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU but i still beat the average anyways...

arch100 is sometimes boring and sometimes pretty cool.. except i heard douglas ross (my prof) is better than the other prof... ross jamieson or something... It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be... but yea..... :P no marks yet

carsncars 12-17-2009 11:01 AM

DONE!!! :)

Personally I enjoyed ARCH 100 and found it pretty easy (Spring '09)... but I can see how it would differ depending on the lecturer. Jamieson is a great lecturer... plus, I got $100 for scanning my notes for that course.

I'm pretty sure they won't be selling " new " B lots any more since they're building a complex on top of the lot, supposedly multi level parkade?

My theory is they're jacking up the prices until nobody wants to pay the fees to use the B lot, indirectly pushing everyone out of B lot so they can build on it.
