not that important. one is econ, one is finance. both are pretty useless, even the TAs said so.

in bus 312, you learn how to calculate interest rates and present/future values by hand (step by step). something you will probably never have to do. in 316 and 320, you'll learn how to do everything you did in 312 with a few clicks of your financial calculator.

ASG111 07-10-2010 11:41 PM

^ spot on. it's totally irrelevant. don't have to worry about it. in terms of the PV and FV though, some profs such as Jorge does not allow you use a financial calculator.

bobbinka 07-10-2010 11:43 PM

Jorge is a faggot. fucking hate his guts.

ASG111 07-11-2010 12:53 AM

what'd you take with him? i have his 315 midterm in like 2 days.. fucking freaking out

bobbinka 07-11-2010 01:56 AM

i took 315 with him last summer. ours was a take-home midterm. his classes are so fucking hard its not even funny. i spent 40 hours on the take-home midterm. the damn thing was only 5 pages long. there were people that spent 30+ hours on it and still couldn't complete it cause it was so god damn hard.

average for the course was like 35%

turb0triX 07-11-2010 01:35 PM

alright thanks guys

ASG111 07-12-2010 09:54 PM

quick question... is Texas Instrument BA II plus a NON PROGRAMMABLE CALCULATOR?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/Full/A01FY.jpg

Strzelec 07-12-2010 11:28 PM

Chances are your teacher really doesnt actually give a shit and you can use any calculator you want. I've had several that said non programmable non graphic. I took out my graphing one, asked the TA's they just shrugged, so i used it (i didnt cheat, its just easier for long equations).
But i think that does classify since the only thing you would be able to program would be values which you probably already have memorized.

I'd rather have a 35% average than our fucking 80% average so far in the course...

If you're wondering if you can use that for Bus 315 exam, then unfortunately we can't:(

ASG111 07-13-2010 01:07 AM

wtf.. how the hell are we suppose to calculate YTM?

carsncars 07-13-2010 08:18 AM

Generally I use this calculator:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...8L._SS500_.jpg

But I always bring the crappy clear calculator from the bookstore just in case the prof/TA is really picky (CHEM 121, 122). I suppose it is programmable, but I don't use those features--it's just the "standard" calculator the bookstore sells is really, really terrible.

On another note, is anyone willing to share good Celebration of Light parking lots? Normally I'd transit but I'm at school until 5:30 pm that day so I'd have to ditch the car at home first then transit out. Pay is fine (within reason), walking 30-60 minutes is fine.

Otherwise, has anyone ever had problems with leaving their car in B-lot late at night?

Ikkaku 07-13-2010 12:08 PM

I've studied at SFU until 230am before and I was parked at the cheap lot lol

If you don't mind watching them on a smaller scale, you could always just head to Jericho/Spanish Banks. From what I've seen, you can usually find spaces in the lots but it just may be further than you'd like so you would most likely have to walk a few lots.

English Bay I don't know the conditions, but for Kits beach you could probably park around the Broadway area (look for residential area since most of Broadway is metered parking)

Anyone know if Econ 342 with David Cox is easy? is it true he only uses the text book? I've taken econ 345 with kasa before and it was fine? are the teaching styles different?

G 07-13-2010 02:11 PM

I heard d.cox is a good prof. I'm probably taking 342 next semester.

has anyone ever tried getting Bursaries? Is it a difficult and long process to get them, and that even if you apply, you have a strong chance of not receiving any?

in other words, how do they really decide?

Harryt 07-16-2010 11:18 PM

Man I don't know if anyone is taking MACM 101.. but we got owned.

Steven Pearce our prof took a unplanned leave of absense. The guy canceled so many classes.. and then finally BOOM one week canceled to find a replacement.

Now we find a replacement on MIDTERM day and it was canceled. So now there is no midterm #2 and the weight is put on the final. Our final is now worth 70%.. and students are okay with it??? u mess that final up and your done!!!

I don't know about this new prof.. but he seems like hes gonna make up a hard ass final.

roflwaffle604 07-16-2010 11:27 PM

LOL oh man steven pearce is such a joke. i had him for macm101 in fall. terrible terrible prof

Did you pass the class? I'm worried now. I mean a freaking 70% final. I don't even know if this new prof will scale or not. I mean hes better at teaching in some ways.. but damn... it's going to be a lot of pressure on the students with a 70% final. You mess it up and well.. MACM 101 all over again next semester LOL. F***!!!!!!!

d1 07-19-2010 05:41 PM

Dang.. was hoping to take econ 302 + 305 but that didn't work out..

fall 2010:

econ 305
econ 325
econ 342
crim 355

G 07-19-2010 05:47 PM

^What didn't work out? Is 302 full already? wtf

Reg date = Thursday :(

Fall 2010:
Econ 302
Econ 342
Crim 315

Buec 333 or Econ 355w (Maybe)

d1 07-19-2010 05:55 PM

302's only half full but it's lame how they set it up..

302's tutorials are tu/th 8:30-9:20 and 9:20-10:20, while 305 lectures are tu/th 8:30-10:20, so you can't take both unless you have an early reg date.. fuuuu

edit: nm.. 302 was half full when regged. 29 seats left now.
