Anyway, the whole thing reads like a scam to me.

^^ Just don't buy them. The lines are going to be full of first years. Just wait until next week. A few hours earlier than 5pm, it will be busy.

If by "got in" you mean put my food scraps on it and save my $90, then yes you are correct

But good luck with what you're looking for. Try searching cuz there was some discussion on this before.. maybe it's in the archive??

tips for newbies:

- don't go line up and buy all your books the first day (week actually). go to your first lecture first and then see if you need it or not.
- line ups for the registrar, counselors, and bookstores tend to be super long
- if you're tired of the food at the MBC/Tims/Triple O's, hit up cornerstone
- there's a new subway in the AQ's McKenzie cafeteria
- to save parking money, park at the bottom of the hill Duthie St-ish on Hastings. it's usually a 4 hours zone but you can find some with no restrictions a block in
- the AQ gets PACKED, try walking outside through the quad itself. it's nicer and quicker.
- library has laptop rentals for 4 hours at a time
- the gym gets super packed, especially in September. I usually go in the mornings.
- locker rentals.gym tag lines takes about 30 mins during peak times, once again, go in the morning or before close
- study hard, manage your time and commit to your classes. it's not high school anymore, people don't remind you to do shit.

feel free to add more on to help the community out.

good luck to all new and returning SFU'ers!

Lineups to pay tuition are always super long if you are paying by cheque there's a dropbox a red one to avoid the lines and pay off the tuition near the scotiabank machine before the registrar's office. Make sure to include your student number in the cheque I forgot last year and they had to contact me to make sure my tuition was being paid with that cheque. First week I usually don't go to lectures proffs usually just intro the class and hand out the outline, after first week make sure to attend class if you're first year, I know its tempting to skip class as some proffs give out notes online but it's important to be in lecture sometimes there's notes that aren't online and surprise quizzes.

noob question: what do you guys bring to school in terms of supplies?

like in highschool we'd use a binder per subject but what about university?
i know i'll be bringing a change of gym clothes and my lunch for sure...not sure about my laptop or not. it's quite heavy

Whatever works for you man. I went supplies shopping today and literally bought a pack of pencils/pens, a notebook and 2 small binders. I also use a laptop though sometimes. You will need notebook forsure though, lots of notes

Some classes also need certain calculators.

it really depends on your class and how you take down notes.

most profs email out or post up lecture notes and most people just print those out and take notes on the side. some bring laptops to type up their notes. if you're taking a math or sciences class and need to draw diagrams and what not, bring a note book for sure.

supplies wise: note book, pen, whiteout, pencil, and a calculator are musts for me

for your gym clothes, you can rent a locker for 20 a semester and it includes towel service (no one wants to sit beside a sweaty classmate)

I just bring a pen/pencil and one of those tiny clipboards they give you during orientation.

I have noticed that the longer I spend at SFU, the less I tend to take notes.

Towel service is for the showers. They wash them for you. So yes, there are showers.

There are showers. I suggest bringing your own towel, I had a few bloody/dirty towels last semester.

School supplies wise, all i bring is a bag, some pens and a notebook. I miss those elementary days where you buy a shit load of felt pens and random crap to be the cool guy in class

and laptop wise, like someone said, there are rentals in the library. but they get rented out quite fast during MT and Final's month. If you got a few friends , maybe pitch in and rent a locker out so you can store your crap there.

Has anyone taken any courses that have required "access codes" before? If so, what are they and are they necessary? Do they expire or are they a one-time use, like only one person can use that code to register and that's it?

Usually the access codes are for homework material and you basically need to buy them. They are one-time use only.
