What do you need help in? I am a 3rd yr econ student. Are u majoring in econ because it gets A LOT more difficult...some exams are 3-4 questions long at the 300 level and deals with more math than theory (331 for instance).

BUS 207 with Ruckman anyone? I'm so friggin' lost with oligopoly and Cournot/Bertrand duopolies. Bombed the Cournot question on the midterm, and I expect to do the same if it's on the final.

And if anyone has taken it with her before, how was the final? How heavily is it weighted towards the last two lectures (risk, uncertainty, information, auctions, etc.)?

No im not majoring in econ, i have to take this class to transfer into business in second year, i just need a c- to fulfill the requirement.

And i do not want to use up my retry for that course.. so yeah.
To be honest i barely know shit about econ, just the basic stuff...

I feel you man, im worried about that final, the problems she gives in examples are to simple and there arent enough of them.

Thrice 12-11-2011 08:18 PM

I need to do really well on the final. I got 15% below average on the second midterm... I was so depressed haha. I've been focusing more on the last two lectures for now, then tomorrow gonna start reviewing the past stuff and really learning oligopoly.

What's your GPA like? Just wondering how you are planning to transfer into business when getting a C- in Econ 103 is ok?

BTW updates to and up and coming students thinking of taking Econ. The most brain fuck course that is 301, will be changed into 201 in the upcoming semesters. Not sure how the academic plan will be like but that's what I'm hearing from the profs.

Thrice 12-12-2011 06:02 AM

Yeah, you need to aim higher than a C- if you want to get in. The absolute minimum GPA in the nine lower div courses for the term I was admitted was 3.19, and it normally hovers around that 3.20 mark.

serious? is the requirements still going to be the same?

Damn and I thought I finish all my 200 level courses :okay:

yellowpower 12-12-2011 12:15 PM

My gpa isnt great but it will get better over time. I am planning on retaking 157... at first i thought i had no interest in the subject so i just gave up but over time i realized it wasn't that i had no interest it was only cause i wasnt applying myself enough. I'm aiming for an A- atleast in that class next sem, but that uses up one of my two retries already, having to retry econ 103 would be a pain since requirements state you only need a c- to fulfill the requirements, the rest is up to you to boost your marks to 3.17 so i will have to try much harder in the other classes to make up for it .

"Students will only be allowed a maximum of two repeated courses based on those nine lower division requirements courses (new admission requirements for Fall 2011 entry onwards). If you have more than two repeats on the nine lower division courses required for admissions, we will use your best two repeats to calculate your Business admission average. "

from the sfu bus major site.

Anyone elaborate this. Taking the two best repeated courses really defeats the whole purpose doesnt it.. or am i reading it wrong

mc. 12-12-2011 12:44 PM

^Of the 9 classes required to get in, you are only allowed to submit 2 of them that are repeated. So if you had to repeat 251, 103, and 105, they will take only the highest 2 in consideration and consider the original for the other. They don't want students to get in by repeating classes over and over again just to get their GPA high enough to get in.

In other words, they don't want dumbasses

epicbeardman 12-12-2011 05:46 PM

Is there a max number of fails you get at SFU before you get kicked out? I've failed 3 courses in my undergrad career and have retaken all three. I am pretty sure I am going to tank one more this term. I am not on academic probation or anything though, my GPA is at 2.7 at the moment. Got 3 more semesters after this and I am out of this shit hole.

IIRC you start with 5 retakes and once you use them all up you cant retake any more courses so you are stuck with the F. the number of times you retake a course/courses has no direct impact on whether or not you get kicked out of SFU, but obviously after you use up all your retakes if you continue to fail courses then your GPA will tank, which could result in you being RTW

Ahh ic. I am a first year so yeah i wasn't really following the pace with everything until later in the sem. Guess ill be using up my first 2 repeats already in the first semester, will have to try hard as fuck these upcoming two years. So far the only course that fulfills the 9 division courses that i am passing is eng 103w for sure getting over 2.4 atleast

Just a little advice. If you "aim" for a C- in 103 you are digging yourself a hole. Why? because its a 4 credit course, and that can break you in the end. I wouldnt redo math just yet, and just work really hard for the rest of the courses. If you DO end up with a C- in 103, consider retaking it. Or else you will have to work extra hard in 105 and buec 232 (both are 4 credit course, and both can boost the gpa if you do well)

Good luck, just dont slack !

BrRsn 12-12-2011 08:04 PM

Fuuu so unmotivated. Gotta get my shit together for my last final. Ahhh!
