I'm still waiting on Econ 105 and English. My Econ mark should be pretty good but for English, I did terrible on both my essays ( got a C and C- respectively) and will probably get no higher than a C+ if my final exam mark is decent.

And does anyone have any tips on how I can prep for BUS 251 with Anne Macdonald? Is the whole textbook relevant or can I skip some parts? The textbook is very dull and each chapter is 50 pages long :okay: I heard that accounting can be quite difficult :lawl:
+ I'm quite worried about the group project for BUS 272... what happens if some of the people in my group don't pull their load ? ):

Forming, storming, norming, performing and then adjourning.

If you're worried about the group project for BUS 272, wait until you take the upper division courses.

It's not hard to get an A in 251 as long as you do the work. There are weekly quizzes based on the chapter readings but they're easy. One trick (I don't recommend relying on this) is to take screenshots of your first quiz attempt in case you get it wrong. They're generally the same questions, just different numbers so if you're having trouble, it can help you out for your second attempt. With quantitative courses like 251, as long as you keep up with your homework, readings, lectures, it's almost impossible to fail since there are a lot of lazy people that attempt to learn the entire course in a few days before the exams :lawl:

some people are better with numbers than others, so you won't really know till you find out for yourself whether accounting is hard or not. i'm on the verge of graduation, and in all the accounting courses i've taken, there are rarely any fails. in fact, you'd have to try pretty hard to get an F, lol. as a tip though, going into any business field, the key is to make lots of friends. not only can you work through homework and stuff together, but they'll come in pretty handy if you want to go through the CA recruit.

as for group projects, you'll have to suck it up, lol. it doesn't matter what year you're in, there will ALWAYS be people that don't pull their weight. you'd expect 3rd and 4th year students to have gotten their shit together, but that isn't the case. trust me, i've been a TA and the majority of groups have complaints about team members. if you want a good mark, you better be willing to do more than your share. in the future, for classes with group projects, always look for the smart people and never settle for the random people sitting around you. you might look like an asshole, but it'll make your semester a lot more enjoyable.

if you have taken acct in high school, than 251 should be a breeze. Or the first half of it before the midterm will be a breeze

i know. i wanted to drop that class from day one but never did it. worst class ever. but luckily i ended up with a B+

Jgresch 12-20-2011 09:41 PM

just so you guys know I found 110 and 130 extremely dry and could not stand doign the readings or sitting in the lectures.

However other cmns courses get much better. There are some 200 level that aren't great, but some that are very interesting and fun.

CRS 12-20-2011 11:20 PM

2 A- and 1 B+ and my CGPA still went down.

very easy course. you learn about work/life balance, the hiring process, managing people.

if possible, take it with Rick Iverson. he's the nicest prof ever. but if he's not teaching it, it shouldn't be too hard or anything.

Thanks, also is there any group paper/presentations? I know business courses love doing group work which I hate the most since im usually the one doing most of the work...

bobbinka 12-22-2011 10:48 PM

group paper and group presentation. almost all business classes will have them.

you can find course outlines for all business classes here: Course Outlines - BBA Portal
