^ exactly, make sure you know when the "window" is open.

for example, i had a bus course i needed to do, 60 student class. I was on the waitlist at #35.

saw an opening, and took it. Was able to get off the waitlist and into the class. :fullofwin:

yray 07-28-2012 12:12 PM

waitlist is a joke

areyounoob 07-28-2012 12:50 PM

:suspicious:
I thought that the waitlist worked as a queue, like the first person on the waitlist would be the first to get a spot if there were an opening. Weird.

GrapeDrink 07-28-2012 02:44 PM

^I'm positive it is normally I've tried that for other classes it would slot me to like #19 in the waitlist if there was like 2 open slots, I'm pretty sure you can only bypass the waitlist people when they were not supposed to be on the waitlist like non business majors who tried to sign up for a business course before the day before classes, what happens is you will be put on the waitlist but its not legit, I did that before and after a week it kicked me out saying it was a system glitch and I'm not even allowed on the waitlist until the day before classes.

ForeverYours 07-28-2012 04:38 PM

Waitlisted for SA150 for like 2 weeks... (2nd position)
Checked the night before and 20 spots were still open (can't enroll because of the SFU NOW thing)

Checks this morning all spots are filled and I'm still not in WTF? :fulloffuck:

What a joke

areyounoob 07-28-2012 05:19 PM

To be honest I feel like the complaints you guys have can be best solved via an advisor. Complaining to an online forum may feel good to rant, but you're really not doing yourselves any favors by doing so.

Advisors will help you get into the classes you need as long as you talk to them in person.

BrRsn 07-28-2012 06:27 PM

So usually the class system updates late at night/early morning (2/3am) so thats when all the added people are processed. if you are on a waitlist, it is processed 2x a day, once in the middle of the night and once during the day. if you see the class is open, never ever waitlist. If you have a friend in a class that is jam packed that wants to drop, you can usually get him/her to drop and add yourself quickly thereafter and get into the class, bypassing all the waitlisted people. This is how people sell spots in classes, this is also why the system is flawed

Gilgamesh 07-28-2012 06:42 PM

^ That is pretty bad.

Who says I can't rant and talk to an advisor :P

I've sent an email to the prof, advisor and CODE SFU (its a distance course) so they don't try to fuck around by sending me to the other. But seeing as its the weekend I probably wont hear back til Mon/Tues.

In regards to the not even allowed on the waitlist I believe that only applies to BUS courses

How is Educ 471 with Nataliya Gajdamaschko as an elective?

Or Lbst 101 with Dale McCartney?

Thanks!

korroke 07-30-2012 12:54 AM

how is psyc 102 with russell day? Should i take it with alder instead?

Sky_High 07-30-2012 02:36 AM

What are some easy GPA booster's that still have space open?

Everything is like taken by now :okay:

obento_supreme 07-30-2012 11:22 AM

PHYS 190 - Astronomy - not sure if its offered this sem

Any GEOG class with Owen Hertzman, very fair prof and easy as long as you put the effort in.

I've heard ARCH100 was easy but I have taken it and it was hard as hell as the prof changed the format of the class

I would say take something where your somewhat interested in so you have at least some motivation to learn the material

Had Day for 100 and Alder for 102, pretty straight forward as long as you keep up with the readings. Preferred Day, but you can't go wrong with either! Good luck, have fun :concentrate:

I believe i had 102 with day. It's a large workload for a 100 level class.

Weekly quizzes (i-clicker), 3 midterms (best 2 of 3), and then a paper and a final.

The hardest part about it imo, is that the course material isn't the easiest to memorize. There's like 40-50 pages per chapter and trying to memorize the 20-40 terms in each chapter + 2-5 main concepts/theories (and the processes and steps) takes quite a long time.

Then again, the material is a lot more interesting than arch 100.

Not sure if ASC 102 is still open but that class is a GPA booster. Easy content and the prof marks pretty easily.

How come some courses have the status CLOSED, yet there are still spots open
For example:
Class Capacity = 90
Enrollment Total = 89
Available Seats = 1

Wait List = 10
Wait List Total = 10

Yet the status is CLOSED.

Also, what happens if you try to swap a class that has status CLOSED, with one of your classes. Will you lose the selected class, or you will get an error message? I would like to try to swap the class with the above, where apparently there is 1 spot free, but status is CLOSED.

its a glitch, the class is indeed closed. You can try to swap but I am sure it will result in an error message

This is so troll... Buec232 switched from 12:30pm on Wed/Fri to 8:30am :rukidding:

After a whole semester of waking up at 6am for Anne Mcdonald's 251.. :fuckthatshit: 232.

Full as fuck. Only 60 spots for ASC 101 / 90 for ASC 102

Introduction to Asia-Canada Studies... :considered:

What did you learn in that class? Standard midterm/final.
Any term papers? Weekly tests? Group proj's? etc

I learned almost nothing :fullofwin:...but 102 was basically china and japan before 1900 and a little bit after. basically learning about the development and history of eastern powers. I got a C (wasted the GPA booster) but if I did it again and actually tried I could definitely get an A (tetris battle was all the rage at the time...:okay: ) It's very easy if you're good at memorizing. I'm a history major so I found this class simple enough. Same prof that I took it with in the spring too.

No group project, a few REALLY short papers (participation in the syllabus). Midterm and finals were multiple choice if I recall, i think there may have been a couple of short answers too. 1 map quiz of Asia (easy.) Looks like he weighted the fuck out of the final though.

Does SFU has swimming club? If yes who do I contact / what are the contact details?

vyrospec 07-31-2012 04:17 PM

I believe we do, just go ask/call the recreation office.

Had my last full day of classes where I eat up there today. Went and got my fave, beef platter from Donair Town. What's your guys favorite food to get up there?

A tie between the hare Krishna veggie plate (for sheer volume of food/price) otherwise it's that place with the Chinese food.

Pro tip:
Those Psych surveys for like $5-10 are good if you want to eat out every week or two and you're in a pinch for cash. Do them all the time for free lunches, I've probably made over $100 in 2 years :fullofwin:
