When the game theory/insurance questions come around you will need to get as much practice as possible.

This as well: Intermediate Microeconomics -Managerial Economics - YouTube

I passed by watching these videos.

haha i used the exact same videos when studying the game theory section of 302. it helps a lot and really clarified the concepts for me since the explanation inclass wasnt very insightful. highly recommend for 302 brahs.

It was actually pretty good. I actually stayed awake for the entire film.

Didn't really get a chance to spy on you, I sat near the middle right section @ the back.

Does anyone recommend being a TA and taking 4 courses simultaneously.

Has anyone done that before ?

Care to share any thoughts.

Depends on both the courses you take and the course you're TA'ing for.

Some courses you TA for don't have much to do (eg: 207 - depends on prof, 254, 251). Others require more effort than taking a course in itself (360).

I've always found TAing pretty easy since most people don't show up for office hours, so you can use it to be productive and do some hw, etc. If the prof requires you to attend lecture, you can use it to study/read. All in all, goes down to how well you manage time normally, if you 4 courses by itself is already hectic for you, then don't TA it. Then again... TAing pays well :D And you get an office room to use!

I'm currently TAing 1 course, TMing another, taking 3 biz upper divisions, working a p-t job 4 days / week, and doing JDC training :O

Hey zeta,

What are the requirements to be a TA exactly? Do you need to already have an undergraduate degree, or people who currently work towards one can be TA's as well?

A link with more information would be awesome, cheers

P.S. Anyone also knows on what pages on this thread there was info on different surveys available at SFU?

Has anybody taken STAT101 or STAT201 by distance education with Timothy Swartz? Can anybody shed some information (ie. was the course load quite heavy, was there decent online support, did you find that you were graded fairly, etc.) I have never taken a statistics course before, nor have I taken a class by distance education.

Thanks.

bluejays 09-13-2012 05:37 PM

Stat101 is a breeze, gpa booster in my opinion

only business allows for undergrad TA, any other faculty is graduate or Honours (very rare)

think you need atleast an A in that course + prof reference

BrRsn 09-13-2012 07:12 PM

you know its time to graduate and get the eff out when your niece is in two of your classes

You can apply to be the TA/TM of a coures once you've finished taking it. Friend of mine TA'd a 2xx course when he was in his last semester in 2nd year.

As far as I know, you only need a B+ (2 friends TA'd for two different 2xx level courses with only B+, no prof reference needed (although it definitely helps). Usually professor references will get you the job, but at the end of the day, someone else hires all the business TA's and not the professors themselves. I've also known people who had prof references and didn't end up getting it.

Grade, availability, professor you took the course with, and resume all contribute to your chances of getting a TA appointment.

Pay is very good as well

(# of tutorial or lab hours)+1 (for office hours) * 1000. So... 2x 1hr tutorials = 3k (for the semester), tutor marking positions = 1k, and TA marking positions = 2k (eg: bus 312). Certain courses pay more because of the workload (bus 360 = 6k).

Here's the link: Teaching Assistantship Opportunities - Beedie School of Business, SFU, Canada

Messerschmitt 09-14-2012 03:35 PM

That's a lot of pay for just 2hrs per week for a semester.

Is there any such link for Computer Science, GIS, Geography? Couldn't find any.

Cheers

Cheers

There's also 1-2 hours of office hours / week, 1-3 hours of preparation for tutorials, and then 8-12 hours for marking midterms and finals and depending on your tutorials, another 1-2 hours/ week answering emails near midterm/final period.
