"flying picket" ........ :fulloffuck:

Quote:

The Strike Contract Committee has called for a flying picket on the following room locations on Tuesday November 13, 2012.

Any TSSU members who teach in one of the rooms listed below during the "Time Struck" should not teach and should instead report to AQ 5129 at 8:00 am to sign in and get a picket sign. AQ 5129 should only be accessed via the east stairwell or elevator across from Alexander Mackenzie Cafeteria, as other hallways and elevators may be struck.

If you have teaching duties at any other location or time, you should continue your work duties as normal! Members who are available for any period during 8:00-11:30 are encouraged to report to AQ 5129 to sign in for picket duty to get strike pay. Done.

bryv 11-13-2012 05:33 PM

All my TA's have been letting the students see their exams during office hours, they're just not releasing it to the prof. One of em even thinks it's unfair that the union is doing this lol...

Messerschmitt 11-13-2012 06:40 PM

So really just curious, how much does a TA make per hour? And how much they are demanding this to be increased to?

BrRsn 11-13-2012 07:09 PM

they make ~$100/hour in quebec

I assume that's what theyre ideally pushing for lol

G-nerd 11-13-2012 07:32 PM

I think my TA is gay.

Now I can't call him gay if he gives me shitty grades since he won't take it as an insult :(.

Many TA's also released marks directly to the professor. I've gotten quite a few marks back already... just waiting on one =/

Its a contract job so you get a fixed sum per semester dependent on the workload and number of tutorials you teach. Some courses pay very high per hour (marking), whereas some courses like BUS 360, it works out to be very little..

Messerschmitt 11-13-2012 07:44 PM

I was just browsing the nets and found this:
TSSU SFU

You get a lump-sum of about $5000-$6000 a semester, depending whether you are in PhD or Masters. It's not by hour, but they expect you to work about 17 hours per week?

When I was a TA... I probably worked 5-6 hours a week, including tutorial hours (4 hours).

Obviously marking midterms/exams take longer, but not that long.

:ilied:

Don't know what going on with TSSU... but I think the wages are fair, if tuition is stable, considering TA have ZERO training to teach, and some can barely speak English.
