you could always fall back into computer sciences if you wish to stay in the faculty. Sciences has no definite requirement like Health Sciences, but the Dean of Sciences will let you transfer if you take 3~ courses with at least a B- in bisc101/102, math, physics. some sciences majors like kin have more specfic reqs

So this one class have 4 persons in the wait list. I'm position 3. I just checked right now, and there is 1 spot free! However, the status is still wait listed. Does that mean anyone who would try to join will join the end of the queue and the first in queue will take that 1 free spot?

I remember reading in this thread that people who were not in the wait list could just join the course when there were free spots and the people in the queue were screwed and did not advance, defeating the purpose of a queue

This is correct. The way it works is kind of a grey area but the general consensus from workers at the registrar/advisers/students is that it updates between 1am - 4am and that's when it checks + processes waitlists.

Of course if someone drops a class outside of that time, most people won't be moved into the class instantaneously. You can try dropping the classes + re-adding without selecting 'waitlist if possible' and in theory it should put you right into that class given you meet the requirements/there isn't early enrollment allowed only for people majoring in it

Hello,

I received notice that the SFU Burnaby campus will be picketed this Friday.

^yup. That's the way. It's a double edged sword, basically. On one hand, it gives the keeners the oppurtunity to land a seat as long as they're checking it periodically. On the other hand, it fucks the people on the waitlist over if they feel that since they were already on the waitlist, they should get that spot.

Accepting that that's how the system works is all you can do if you hate it. It pretty much boils down to how much you want the course.

Messerschmitt 11-19-2012 05:04 PM

But even if a seat is available it looks like the status is still wait listed so you cannot just join the class and jump the queue. Someone who tried it (but didn't had the pre-req) got the error that the class was full. When he selected wait listed then it said it didn't had the pre-req (wish I could've found someone who had the pre-req and see the process until the end)

I'm afraid to drop out of the wait list and try it and then just get the error that class is full and lose my queue spot (wait list is almost full now)

Somehow I want to send an email to web support, or whoever is maintaining the whole registration process and ask them.

areyounoob 11-19-2012 05:08 PM

Hmm. Maybe they fixed it.

Messerschmitt 11-19-2012 05:18 PM

The free spot is still there, and the que just got larger, just checked it now. I shall wait until tomorrow morning to see if it updates and see if I move up one spot

Messerschmitt 11-19-2012 05:41 PM

Ok, the queue just updated. Free spot is gone, queue is shorter by 1, I moved up one place. So atm it looks like it's working. Now if only 2 more would drop it :fullofwin:

hey guys, i'm in grade 12 at the moment and i have a question

how do transfers work within sfu?
i want to get in to sciences, but math isn't a strong subject for me and i decided not to take it, but with my other courses (english, economics, history, biology) i have around a 88-90% average

can i apply into arts, get accepted, and take sciences instead while doing a introductory math course?

buffon 11-19-2012 06:07 PM

Anyone take Phil 100w with David Heide before? Can't find any reviews for him. How bad is Phil 100?

Or BUEC 232 with Bernard Maronney?

You sure can. You're going to have to take Math 100 if you don't have the prereqs for Math 150 or 151. Alternatively, you can take the Calculus Readiness test and if you score high enough you could take Math 150/151 without taking Math 100.
Though I'm not too sure what the required courses are for an internal transfer into science.

zetazeta 11-19-2012 07:02 PM

Eh 336 assignment is so tedious. Hate doing shit on paper.
