Currently writing a philosophy paper and incorporating some of the things I've learned in polsci and crim
Finally the things I'm learning can actually be applied somewhere :fullofwin:

Does anyone know how long you're allowed to have a book at the library out for? I have the PDF but need it for an open book midterm :badpokerface:

Gilgamesh 02-16-2013 03:40 PM

usually 3 weeks unless it is recalled. Sometimes you can get certain books for semester loan.

^I've been renewing a book for like a year that I can't find. Gotta fess up soon :badpokerface:

Question for Computing Science students...

I am taking Business Statistics (equivalent to BUEC 232) at Douglas for my Statistics requirement (the other choice is Statistics for Science and Engineering, STAT 270). However, in order to take CMPT 305 (Computer Modelling) I will need STAT 270...is it interesting enough to take STAT 270 for?

areyounoob 02-17-2013 05:23 PM

Hmm. I'm not too sure. You might want to consult the CS advisors for prereq information. Whenever I needed clarification in regards to prerequisites they always made things crystal clear.

fs604 02-17-2013 05:44 PM

im in stat 270 right now. 4 midterms.. :ohgodwhy:
some of the applied stuff is neat, a lot of stuff we learn is just plain hard (imo)
this course will be a gpa dropper, but its required in cs,engineering, stats, etc so it seems like a pretty important course to take.

I know that I need to take the harder STAT 270 as a prerequisite for CMPT 305-even though I can use BUEC 232/BUSN 2429 to cover the degree requirements for Statistics. However, I don't think I would have been able to handle STAT 270/MATH 2260 because it has a corequisite/prerequisite of Calculus II. If CMPT 305 is worth the GPA drop, then I will probably take it in a future semester...but probably not until I get past MATH 240. Linear algbra...not even once.

areyounoob 02-17-2013 10:32 PM

Well for what it's worth I took BUEC 232 with no intention of taking CMPT 305. There's a lot to choose from so I wouldn't worry about it.

BrRsn 02-18-2013 05:36 AM

Didn't do shit all reading break,

All nighter saturday night, all night now .. and I'm allllmoooosttt caught up! :fullofwin:

Geoc 02-18-2013 09:25 AM

We got quite a few cmpt students at RSFU, maybe we should help eachother out... :troll:

Porschedog 02-18-2013 11:59 AM

Yeah I also took BUEC 232 instead of STAT 270. I asked the advisor before I took it and they gave me the green light. You should double check with them in case the requirements changed though.

BrRsn 02-18-2013 06:42 PM

too many all nighters .. im half braindead.

can anyone with CMPT knowledge clear this up for me?

This is my function:

def bricksAndTowers(bricks):
impress=int(bricks/1024)
a=int(impress*10000) ## Profit From Impressive
impressremain=int(bricks-(impress*1024))
regular=int(impressremain/256)
b=int(regular*2000) ## Profit from Regular
regularremain=int(impressremain-(regular*256))
c=int(regularremain*20)

print impress,"..",regular,"..",regularremain,"..",((a+b )-c)

My only problem is I need to print that last line without adding spaces, but keeping 2 dots in between (requirement of the assignment). Can anyone help? Using python 2.7 if it matters

So I heard SFU might be delaying their Harlem Shake to next year.. :troll:

BurnoutBinLaden 02-18-2013 08:55 PM

Are any Revsceners members of the Computing Science Students Society? I'm thinking of visiting and exploring the campus sometime next month. I shall drop by the CSSS common room and say hello.
