The class schedules are getting worse and worse every semester... 2 distance ed's and 2 regular classes and I still have to be up on that stupid mountain 4 days. Was gonna take one more class but then I'd be up there all 5 days. :fuckthatshit: used to be able to schedule all my classes on 2 days... Even in summer! Wtf is this shit?

Taking it in the summer. 2 lab days/week which don't make sense....

I was gonna take 304, but there's no way I'm down to go up every day at 830...

Is it gonna be a bunch of women indirectly making snarky remarks at me during class discussion?

Langara student here and I'm seriously of thinking of transferring to SFU to finish my BBA in Accounting. My main reason is for the CO-OP program because to get an accounting designation, you need the work experience. Would anyone like to share about their insight or experience in the SFU co-op program?

Ahh, I'm already waitlisted for two courses

buffon 03-21-2013 09:57 PM

Anyone in accounting? So they're changing the program next year? Not sure if I should still apply or not...

I'm currently starting my co-op program but not in accounting. The workshops and meetings are long and tedious, but you gotta do what you gotta do. All you're really in it for is the ease of applying to co-op jobs. Ask the coordinators questions when you have them, and if they can't help you, ask another person. Find out the earliest you can apply for co-op, and apply then.

correct me if i'm wrong.. but there are little to no coop opportunities that count towards your hour requirements... I know there are CA firms that do have articling coop positions,,, but the recruit is an entirely different process.

I haven't looked at CMA or CGA (or.. CPA) requirements in a while but I believe you need hours at a non-junior level as well. Not sure if it was management level requirement or smth..

That being said... I do think it is a good idea to go to SFU for the coop program as it is very flexible and there are quite a lot of decent postions out there.

I have a sneaking suspicion they only check reserve stalls once a day(I've only ever seen them check the WMC reserve section at ~7:50am mon-fri)
I was in a rush today so I parked in my spot but didn't have a decal/didn't drive my registered car...

Came back 4 hours later and ...

no ticket :fullofwin:

How is Bus 254 with Masood Kamlani? He doesn't even have a course outline up so i dont know if he has assignments that are for marks or not. Should I take it with Michelle Iorio instead?

Definitely one of the harder lower-division courses in bus. I took it last semester with Masood, and found his lectures pretty boring/not that useful.

You have to do assignments (there's answer key provided), because there is a random chance that the TA will pick you to present (worth 5% you can present as many times as you want, TA will pick highest mark). Each class 2~ people will present, and the TA will present another problem himself.

From my experience, the midterm was really difficult (you really needed to understand the concepts, and be able to apply it), and there wasn't enough time. The final isn't much easier, but I found it to be more fair (the type of questions he asked/and we were given more time).

I ended up getting a B/B+, but this course is definitely harder than bus251.

Which ones are the reserved stalls? I want to go to gym on my days off, but I don't want to bus, and I don't want to pay 7$ either every time I go.

From what I know, after you get your bachelor's, you are required to work full-time while completing the CPA courses. I'm interested in co-op purely for the experience and to get my foot in the door.

wuuhoo 03-24-2013 12:44 PM

I htink if you have any accounting experience, you might be better off doing CA (or whatever its called) Recruit.

TA'd for masood and I have to say his midterm and finals are a joke compared to the other profs. I also discussed this with some of the other TA's and all the other profs we've TA'd for were MUCH harder. That being said, his theory question is stupid. He marks that very hard... but I guess it balances out?

There will be questions on his exam where you can write literally 3 lines of work and get 18/18 on a 100 mark, 45% midterm. Ridiculous.

That being said, the course itself is not for everyone. Some people find it very challenging as the concepts are a lot different than 251, but some others found it easier than 251 (like myself).
