^ don't be discourage to transfer just because those classes destroyed you.

Ask yourself, do you like comp sci? Disregard the grades, do you like what you've learned, are you interested in doing more with it and expanding your knowledge. That is what you should consider.

Yah sure, the early material is really dull, but I find it way more interesting when you're doing hands on coding with CSS, javascript, C/C++ and making cool shit out of it. Web apps to mobile apps, endless things you can do with computers

I've played with mysql and visual basic in gr7~ where I emulated/made my own private server of a game using leaked data of that game. I was basically a script kiddie but I loved how I could manipulate codes and it could change the NPCs, weapons, etc.

My script kiddie ways still give me the biggest mind boners as I think back.
I've never had a hobby, but if I could, I would name playing with programming and codes as the only one i've had.

That being said, I hated macm and cmpt 150. Probably gonna get a C- in both macm and cmpt 150 assuming I didnt fail the finals. CS might really not be for me even though I'd like to learn to program. maybe sfu isnt for me lol

We're all gonna make it brah!

If you like programming, don't give up transferring so easily. Perhaps take the summer off to recharge, re-evaluate what you want to do?

@Mwoo

Who was your prof for macm and 150? You had a good start with some programming knowledge.

For me, I started out fresh. I went into comp sci without any programming knowledge and learned to love it. Yeah its hard, my GPA isn't great, but in the end I learned. I was always curious of how certain programs were made, my curiosity brought about this career path.

I wouldn't say I never second guessed my choice. I always like number and calculations and thought that accounting would be my major out of high school. Also during my 2nd year, I was in the same position as you, I didn't know if I really liked it. I met up with an advisor and she really help. Maybe you should look into that and book an appointment. Ask some question, and maybe you'll be more interested into comp sci.

One of the reasons for your lack of interest may be that the material in macm and 150 isn't relative to what you're interested in. Yeah its the building blocks of comp sci, but its there to help your thought process of computer and the logic behind programming. I would suggest take a programming course. cmpt225? You'll learn a lot

GIS is the best :P

Transferred out of CS (hate programming with passion) and love GIS. So lucky I found this program a little while back while browsing SFU's calendar

I'm not a computing science student, but how can you get a C- even when you have passed the final?

That's how computing science/macm classes are. All you need to do is pass the final to get a C-.

You're generalizing. Most class have weights as outlined in the class syllabus.

For example 454 has a 60% weight on the final. Guess what happens if you get a 50% on that and you didn't pass all your other components that valued 40% (and therefore you have less than 20%).

It's mostly the first and second year courses that require you to pass the finals and midterms to pass the course. My CMPT 300 and 310 classes have that policy though. I realize that I forgot to mention that you need to pass the midterms as well, so I apologize for that.

I don't think the weight distribution matters if it's outlined in the class that all you need to do is pass the finals or midterms to pass the course, and all you want to do is pass the course. See here: https://portal.cs.sfu.ca/portal/outl...CMPT-125-D100/
According to this, passing the midterm and final would bring you to 37.5%, but since the syllabus states that all you need to do is pass those ones, then you will pass the course.

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully MBB courses don't require you to pass the final in order to obtain a C-. Not too confident going into the final and barely passed both midterms. 17 chapters to read.
