anyone took or heard of FPA 120? I heard it's just a dance class and should be relatively easy if you just participate?

For those looking to sign up for upper division Criminology courses, avoid CRIM413 with your life...

I should have checked ratemyprof before signing up. Class average for the midterm this semester was 16/35

:okay:

Not sure how easy it will be, but the beer brewing course looks like a lot of fun.

Xu.Vi 11-07-2014 11:21 AM

I believe EDUC358 does not have any pre-req's. Straight forward course as well.

Not available next semester :( saw EDUC351 though which sounds pretty straight forward and no pre-reqs. Anyone know anything about that course?

Out of curiosity, what's everyone's preferred final exam studying strategies?

Getting ready to take out those nootropics

Does anyone have any tips for a first year that feels like they are going to be put on academic probation after their very first semester? Just failed a math 157 midterm and got below 57% on a bio test and bio lab test...

I feel the biggest problem first years have is that they tend to memorize surface information rather than trying to get a strong grasp of the underlying concepts. Always ask yourself why a formula is structured like that or what details does it show you and how is that relevant? Stuff like this.

Also, be structured and organized. Plan ahead. Don't let failure drag you down. Use your mistakes as learning experiences.

Math 157 is a tough course (especially if you didn't take pre-calculus in highschool).

When I took 157 there were two midterms and one final, so don't give up yet. Do all of the assigned homework, and visit the calculus workshops for extra help. I remember I literally went 2-3 times each week spending couple of hours doing homework there and asking the TA's questions.

Anyone at SFU right now?

Oh, Idk, Im just feeling soo depressed and unmotivated right now, I have to catch up on 7 bio chapters (Bisc 100) and I HATE the material. For my other courses other than math, I actually enjoy it so I don't mind doing that work(even cramming)...just so unmotivated right now...

areyounoob 11-08-2014 10:21 PM

Could anyone please comment on CMPT 371's workload with Peters?

I'd really like to have a light load next semester and 371 is the one class that I'm on the fence about. For what it's worth, I'm planning on taking CMPT 354 and MACM 316 as well.

Go talk to a therapist or something. Everyone gets depressed around this time of year, and everyone takes classes they hate.

All I can tell you is, before bed lay out a schedule for the following day. Stick to that schedule or you will waste all your time

Thoughts on taking Bus 336 and 320 together at the same time?

TheGreatLeader 11-09-2014 01:06 PM

Thanks for the tips, will do that.

Just wondering who I should take bus 254 with Arsineh Garabedian or Michelle Iorio. Looking for a prof that actually utilizes the homework assigned and lecture notes on the midterms and exams. Currently have Ann Macdonald for 251 and her lectures are pointless as they had nothing to do with her midterm. Her lecture material is really easy but once you look at the assigned homework its material she barely brushed over so you start from scratch reading the 50 page chapters in the text.

Don't worry if you're put on AP. You'd be surprised at how many people are on it.

Staying on top of your readings and assignments makes everything much less stressful.

Honestly, Bus 336 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I'm taking it with Johnson this term. There are a few assignments over the term, but aside from that, the workload is light. You only do 5-6 chapters in the course and Johnson makes it super easy with his packages. There are optional problem sets that he posts every week and those will help a lot for exam preparation. Bus 320 is quite a dense course. You need to really stay on top of things to get a good grade. Overall though, taking Bus 336 and 320 together is fairly manageable.

My friend is taking Bus 254 with Michelle Iorio this term. She said her midterm was extremely easy. As long as you keep up with the weekly homework assignments, that class is extremely easy.
