You get 0 credits towards your gpa. But you can re-take it and the previous mark will be replaced.

I failed my first midterm too, but did decent on my 2nd one. Final is worth 50% so its make it or break it i guess for me

Where do you usually sit for 157:ahwow:

Do you know if math 157 is curved?

Not curved, but my prof scaled it up for our class (by about 2-3%) after the final.

This all depends on the scaling of the course as a result of the distribution of marks. Most profs are generally content with the class getting a C+ average.

If everyone gets 25% on the course, a 50% would result in a B/B+. As you can imagine, this can mean anything.

However, in my experience, anything around 50% is a D or C-.

Don't stress it too much and use it to motivate yourself to do better. I was put on academic suspension three times (twice from Langara and once from Kwantlen), so I know first hand that it isn't the end of the world. I also realize that it's easier said than done to use a probation as a motivating factor. Not everyone is the same and sometimes you may need to draw your motivation from other sources. In my case, it was probably a combination of meeting my ex and being alerted to that fact that my second suspension from Langara would preclude me from registering for two years.

Long story short, I picked up my act during my second chance at Kwantlen, transferred to ubc, bombed my first semester at ubc when my ex left me, and am somehow in my first year of law as I type this.

Obviously my approach wasn't the smartest, but if you are going to take anything from my story:
Don't give up and stay away from World of Warcraft! ..or League of Legends now

Anyone know any easy/gpa booster upper division courses? Preferably distance education (online). I know EDUC courses always come up but which ones and what profs? What about Crim or science or health science courses?

Purely 11-11-2014 10:13 AM

^how come specifically upper-division?

buffon 11-11-2014 10:58 AM

I cant find a 3rd course to take next semester. I really should have taken 320 a long time ago because it opens up so many courses.

Thanks! And Im assuming a C- or D is still a pass and I get credits. And that an F is a fail.

Depends.

If you get a D in a course and it's:
Core = no credits
Non-core/elective = credits

So you need a C- if the course you're taking is a core course to get credits.

Don't worry, are you doing these two + two non-business electives?

336 with Johnson is good, but be prepared for his final (it's hard).

Taking 320 right now, it's okay but the material is more intense compared to 251 and 254.

Anything less than a C- will basically not count as a C- is generally the minimum requirement needed to get to the next step. So if you get a D, it will generally not satisfy your required courses.

Ya those 2 plus 1 elective, but I can't find anything. Might take crim 101 or bpk 143 lol. How's bus 338?

What are you taking?

How do you know if the course is a core course?

I strong suggest you book an appointment with an academic advising and discuss about your current situation / motives.

xXSupa 11-12-2014 01:22 AM

My enrollment date's coming up on the 14th. What's everyone taking next term?

Planning on taking BUS 321, BUS 473 (class is already full, going to waitlist), BPK110, looking at LING 100, HSCI 120, or PSYC100 for my other electives. Most likely taking 4 courses to catch up next semester.

Anyone at SFU right now?

It seems like everyone on here is in the business faculty. Is no one in arts? Does no one on here face the struggle that I do? lol

kevin7352 11-12-2014 03:09 PM

We can't help those who won't even help themselves.

Seriously. You're not doing anything to address the issue except for posting on RS. Talk to an advisor and get some good direct information.
