For anyone who took Karen ruckman for 207, would you say her Tutorials are mandatory /directly relate to exam questions? As her class is 2hrs and 50min but the last hour is an optional tutorial by TA'S so I was just wondering how important they are/related to exams

it is very important, the tutorial questions covered in lecture have a very similar structure to the midterm exams and final

she posts questions related to each chapter and also posts solutions to them, and she does cover some of them in lecture, are you referring to those questions?

or the questions the TA's assign and go over in the tutorial part of the class(the last hour).

i feel that the questions that she sends to you with solutions are more basic, and the ones done in the optional tutorial are harder. however, both tutorial, and the one she sends out are good resources to her exams.

Tutorials can help, but keep in mind that tutorials are given by the TA's, they create the questions and not Karen. The online weekly questions are a lot more important, since they are actually created by Karen, and are similar to the exam questions.

I know a lot of people who never attended tutorial, never did tutorial questions, and got a good grade in the class.

I would recommend re-listening to her lecture recordings while going over the slides, and do the weekly questions after the lecture. Then do the same thing again before an exam.

Is anyone here in the International Studies program? I'm thinking of majoring in International Studies. I read that there is a competitive average to get into the program. I am a little worried because I bombed my first semester and got a 2.0 gpa. Can anyone tell me the average gpa to enter the program or what you had when you entered?

For midterm 1, the tutorial questions are useless. Study them more closely for midterm 2 and the final.

Just my opinion.

I heard it was 3.0 but this was 2-3 years ago.

Never went to tutorial and got a decent grade. Took this a while back but the TA's in charge of presenting were abysmal and didn't help at all so my friend and I just worked on in-class examples and the weekly questions.

Thanks for everyone's input on 207 tutorials, from the info given I will avoid the first half of tutorials and goto the 2nd half of the semesters, any more input would be appreciated!

I also have a question for beedie students that have completed the new Bus 202 course of internal transfer students, are the tutorials/seminars actually important? I went to the first one and it was instructed by faculty, seemed pretty useless to me as there is no final or midterm for the class only group projects... next week it switched back to TA's to instruct the class, is there any point to going to the Bus 202 tutorials?

Anyone in CMPT 454? There's a report and a presentation and I'm forever alone.

It switches week to week. One week you work on your projects, the next week a faculty member comes and does a presentation (co-op, foreign exchange etc). Then it cycles back to working on your projects again and so on. Although the seminars for co-op and those things aren't important for the class, they are informative so I wouldn't suggest skipping them. As for the tutorials where you work on your projects, attend those for sure because if you don't, your team can give you a low score on the team evaluation.

Is the wifi at SFU working for anyone? I've tried SFUNET and the SFUNET-SECURE. Both don't seem to be working for me.

It's different for every area of the school. Sometimes I have to use Eduroam, it's not bad, other times I have to tether...

Constantly switching between SFU-Secure, eduroam, and SFU-NET. Most of the times, at least 1 of them works...

got dinged today for being late and parking in the no parking area
finished my exam early and just caught him loading up my car
still got charged like $100 bucks as opposed to the $160 that some other people got when they showed up

he left a piece of wood underneath my car and left, so my pinch weld was resting on it.
the stock jack didn't fit underneath so i had to wait 30mins for another guy to come
never again lol, $100 bucks to save 10 mins :/, he told me they've towed 26 cars so far this semester haha

I've actually never used eduroam before.

Everytime I select it under my wifi nothing happens.
