I'm feeling the nerve. I have an interview for a research analyst position tomorrow at 10 in the morning and the CBSA position after. I hope I don't blank out, haha.

Too broad and not what people expect from a phil class I think.
Most people think it's a stupid waste of time, I like it.
That class wasn't great tho.

The pay does suck, but I guess it's all for the sake of getting your foot in the door. Either way though, I hope I get an offer from one of the jobs...don't really want to be in class for next semester.

Mine works out to ~$3600/month... but subtract $600 in co-op fees. |

One time fee of $700 per term is small compared to the revenue you make in one term (4 months x $3600 ) .

^ I think it differs.
A friend of mine who had been hired by VANOC as part of the bus work force crew had to pay $600. My other friend who had been hired by Canada Tax Revenue Agency had to pay $800.
Regardless, that is a small amount to pay for the amount you ultimately end up with.

^ Naw, it's the same... it's just if you're in the Lower Mainland, you have to buy Upass. If not, you don't have to buy it. But the co-op practicum fee is still ~$600. Nice! My friend got hired by Honeywell doing 2010 security... jealous, because he gets put up in Whistler during the Olympics. Night boarding...
Yeah, I suppose they have to pay for the co-op staff somehow..? It just doesn't feel like they do $600 worth of work for us. :P

Ah, okay.
Yeah, $600 is basically the fee for their services...I guess we can't really complain though. Whenever I needed a question answered or needed some sort of assistance, they promptly answered. If the fee was $400 instead, I'd be a little happier :-P

Well, say there are 50 engineering students on co-op, and each pays $600. 50 X $600 = $30,000 per term, so for 3 terms, $90,000 is collected per year. There are four staff in the ENSC Co-op Office, so divide that by 4... $22,500. Then the university kicks in some money. But still, I guess it's a reasonable amount...

what did you say about the three doctors? | Well, I didn't answer that thesis very well... made up my own view and then didn't comment on everything. Fixed it in my second version tho.
I said that with the information we know it is most reasonable to conclude that the patient in fact had mental states. Also that a soul is not necessary and nor is an organic brain, but only one that functions as one.
I based it on the outward behavior (aka, Ryle), that a mind is necessary for mental states and a soul is not.
What did you say?

What did you say? | ah I went with the third doctor,
If the patient has a computer for a brain he is simply programmed to act in the certain way; to respond to the inputs and give outputs. Even though we see that the patient is acting as if he is a normal human being, he isn't truly understanding what is happening to him. For example, if he gets poked by a stick, the response would be to jitter from that poke. Although we observe him and think that he is in the state of pain, he is simply responding to that input and giving us an output. Therefore, it is more reasonable to agree with the third doctor that the patient is unable to have a mind and mental states.

But it contradicted some thought experiment. I asked my TA if I could just make my own thought experiment but she said it would be best just to take it out. So yea...
