How's the overall program? Is it a lot of programming or more on the theory? I'm used to doing a lot of programming and less on the theory stuff.
How are the classes and lectures? Is it like lectures then labs? And approximatley how big is each class?
I got a few courses credited already but they're all over the place haha. I have to take a few 100 courses and 300 and 400. What kind of WQB courses should I take as well?
Thanks guys! Posted via RS Mobile |

not many theories IMO
the the class is about 250 students... i guess
if u hv programming background,
then u can just take cmpt 126 instead of taking both cmpt 120 and 125
my last advice: beware of academic dishonesty in CS, they take it seriously..

I'm just finishing off my CS degree at SFU.
The program is more geared towards theory over programming. Although you will definitely need to know how to program to get by, it's more valuable to be able to apply theories and principles across different paradigms and languages. The easier it is for you to pick up a new language, the easier your degree will be.
If the prof is good, the lecture will be good, otherwise it will be crap. Most of the lower division classes have labs with their lectures. Although I do believe they dropped labs for 125/126 starting in the fall. Classes are usually smaller, anywhere from 30-70 people on average. Upper division classes are more project and group work focused.
You should look into pursuing a minor, that way all those useless WQB and credit courses you take will give you something extra in the end.
If your starting in the fall I would recommend attending the CS Froshweek. Its alot of fun, you get free food and win prizes (like video games), and meet people and make new friends with people you will be taking classes with. Plus its free, and I am volunteering this year for it.

These are the courses I got credit for:
MATH 1XX
MACM 101
CMPT 470, 371, 361, 307, 300, 250, 150, 120, 125, 225
FAL X99
FAN X99
I'm rather confused as the credits I got for the courses are all over the place. They aren't like all 100 courses. They seem to be spread apart everywhere.
I want to take CMPT 275 in fall but I need a W course in order to take it. Which makes it seem like I need to do all of my WQB courses before I do anything.
I'm probably going to talk to an advisor next week to see what I should do.

Ive heard they very rarely check the small parking lot by the main entrance to the WMX parking lot. I've also heard of people parking in univercity.

Hey, I have my econ 103 with class at RBCIMAGTH (Robert C. Brown Hall?) and my engl 105 class is at WMC3520 (West Mall Complex). They are 10minutes apart.. and was wondering if it is possible to speed-walk and make it to my class on time? Are there any shortcuts you guys reccommend me to take?
