i just got the bold.

1. now how do I get the browser to work on my home's wifi? i can detect, and connect to my wifi, but i can't browse? the IP address is all 0's....

2. does anyone know of free GPS programs, that doesn't require a data plan? IE, using the bold's internal GPS

3. any free programs that can use only wifi to check emails, go on msn, fb, etc?

thanks!

how i got my wifi browser to work at home was.

1) go to ur browser
2) then click the blackberry menu button
3) click on options
4) click on browser configuration
5) where it says "Browser: Rogers Mall", change it so it is "Browser: Hotspot browser"
6) click the back button
7) click on general properties
8) where it says "default browser: Rogers Mall", change it so it is "Browser: Hotspot Browser"
9) click back and save it

it should work now. at least it did for me. i tried a bunch of different methods but this one worked.

thanks for the help, but my browser was always set to "hotspot", so there's really nothing I can do there.
it seems like it's a problem with my IP, how it's set to 0

argh this is so annoying
i flashed my bold with a newer fw, and tried to go online, it worked
but when i checked back i was using 3G data, and i dont have a data plan

If you connect it to Wifi it doesnt use your plans Data. I have a 500mb data plan for my BOLD and I regularly used about 30-80mb per month. I use msn alot, facebook, hotmail, gmail, youtube etc. I wouldnt worry about using the Wifi, unless your in a area with bad coverage, and want access to the internet.

500Mb/Month is plenty of data, unless you are tethering. Why bother with WiFi? WiFi is meant for UMA, But it can be used for Browser as well, Most of your Apps won't work on it.

If the Wi-Fi isnt turned on then it will automatically use the 3G network, if the Wi-fi is turned on and linked to the wi-fi signal in range, It will use the Wi-fi signal.

there are also 3 different browsers in the bold built in if i remember. just go to the browser, go to options and you can switch between browsers. i think there is one browser for HotSpots, the one regular for 3G and i think there may be one for WAP.

I use Viigo for news, sports, etc updates. Seems to work pretty well and you can configure what you can see on your channels.

Anyone else using the over-hyped Bolt browser?

I don't think its as good as the built in browser. Its a little faster, but to zoom in and do other simple Bold Browser functions it takes like three menus.

Bah I need to try Opera Mini

I only use Bolt Browser for Revscene.. loads a lot faster than the BB browser.

What also sucks about Bolt is that you can't copy and paste!

I also am not a fan of Bolt. I just use the BB browser for wap sites and Opera Mini for everything else. I didn't really notice Bolt being any faster than Opera.
