the e30 is guaranteed to be a classic. It is the most well balanced, driver oriented car ever built. the e36? you might as well drive a volvo.

the e30s are great cars for what they are...the 91 318is is a pretty good looking car which handles, but man... it is gutless. If speed & big power are not that important, the car is otherwise bulletproof. The e30 was overbuilt becuase it was the last chassis to be designed by the engineers Vs the accountants. Personally, I think the 325is is a far superior car in every aspect Vs 318is. It drives completely different.

After a 10 month absence, you used your first 3 posts to bump an old thread and call out marco?

The car would rip.

The only reason i sold it was because i bought this:

88 325i Touring. Rare and sexy. British Racing Green 188k
E30 Touring. That's a beauty and definitely a collector car. More pics?

Agreed. And the rust issue would be my main advice. Check it very carefully for rust.

The euro shop I used to work at crushed lots of them because the rear strut towers had basically disintegrated on cars that otherwise looked solid.

Bad news.

they are fantastic, especially the 318's super fun to drive, easy to mod, look great but good luck finding one in decent condition.

be prepared to spend 4-7k on a good model. look around craigslist.

Bumping an old thread.

Well, a couple of years went by and I still had the urge to pick up an E30. I managed to find one, though it's a bit of a fixer-upper. A red 1989 325is 5-speed. I've already had to dump some money into it - new exhaust (cat/muffler) and a new power steering rack and pump - and it still needs some work (valve adjustment, and general tune-up which I plan to tackle myself since this work won't need a hoist.) There's also a bit of rust on the lower corner of the driver's side door and the red paint is fading on the bumper and trunk lid.

With that said, there are some good things about the car:
- Head was rebuilt within the last 2 years. Aside from the ticking valves, the engine pulls strong.
- BC car all its life - originally purchased by some Chinese girl at Auto West in Richmond.
- Transmission shifts well and the clutch take-up is good.
- Suspension is in good shape

Once I get the E30 thing out of my system, I will lose a bit of the money that I put into it. In the meantime, I will enjoy the neutral handling and the sound of that inline-6.
