As far as I know, shipments to PR are done by boat. They don't pass through Canada lol

There's a bridge a few miles upriver that runs parallel to I5 if you look on Google Maps. I doubt there will be any substantial delays.

mickz 05-23-2013 11:53 PM

I've always been told that the packages destined for Point Roberts come into Canada first.

I doubt this bridge collapse will cause much, if any, delay in the delivery of packages. It's not the only crossing and there are many detours they can take around it. I'm surprised at how quick Google Maps is though, they've taken that bridge out completely already.

No delays for me. Ordered a set of tires 4 days ago and they arrived in 3 days. Hope I don't get taxed but I know I'll have to.. :okay:

Are you sure they don't enter by air? ;)

I just signed up for a fuel rewards card at Shell.
Instantly save 3 cents per gallon on fuel and 5 more cents/gal if you link your mastercard with the rewards card.

Anyone else have this?

Just a quick question for you guys as I've never done this cross-border shipping but does anyone have any recommendations for which company will accept large shipments. I'm looking to ship a children's bedroom set there so it's in many pieces and couple hundred pounds. Thanks for the help in advance.

TSB.. they have a cargo bay you can just back your pickup and load everything straight from there.. people ship fridges, stoves etc and pick it up that way.

Out of curiosity do any of you guys know if any parcel receiving companies have a timeframe longer than 2 weeks before they start charging for storage?

I order quite a lot of things and I hate making the trip down there every week or so to avoid the fees

Edit: using TSB at the moment

Point Roberts Shell keeps it for a month without charging extra if I'm not mistaken.

Yes. You get the card there and register it online with their zip code.

Has anybody signed up for a US credit card? I have a bmo US$ credit card but because it is from canada, some stores do not allow me to order. This is especially frustrating ordering a pair of jordans at 5am and then realizing they wont let me complete my order.

Autorice 06-05-2013 03:16 PM

yup. I got one from bannerbank. platinum rewards cashback! I think I get around 1% and I put it automated so everytime I hit x points it automatically gives me cash. no fees but everytime I buy stuff on ebay they always hit me with foreign transaction fees (even if the seller is in USA). but at least it's in USD and I can dispute a charge if the seller sends me a rock.

PJ 06-05-2013 03:31 PM

Just started shipping from down there. Mind blown.

To ship a small package from Vancouver to Cali = ~$20 + extra for tracking

To ship the same package from PR to Cali = ~$3, tracking included!

The funny thing is, shipping to Canada from the States is also cheaper than shipping Canada to Canada

UFO 06-06-2013 09:37 PM

USPS is awesome in terms of shipping prices. I shipped a smallish box to Toronto, cost $20 all said and done. I was expecting it to be around $10-12, then I remembered it was Canada Post.

Sign up for the TD USD Visa, I have been able to use it at all the American stores.

ForbiddenX 06-10-2013 11:39 AM

^Are there any fees you have to pay?

I get the feeling that his/her issue isn't with a USD credit card, but with not having a US billing address.

I know a few people have had success with having a US address on file with the Canadian bank but I've noticed it's hit and miss. I do have a US credit card as well (with a US bank and a US billing address) and I've heard it is possible (although I"ve never verified it) that you can apply for a US credit card with a US bank so maybe that's worth a try? You may need an american mailing address for it though.

Hondaracer 06-10-2013 02:30 PM

So I asked this in the other thread but this may be more applicable

If I'm to buy tires that are made in the states for my truck, are they duty free? What kind of tax etc would I pay if I just went over to the Bellingham Costco bought my tires and came back?

The tires in question are BF Goodrich all terrains and from everything I can find they are made in the states

If you have TD's Select Service account it's free, otherwise there is an annual fee for the Visa.
