^ yes, if you mean your contract no longer is valid cuz it ended

no if you don't have a contract with fido to begin with

but if you just renewed i guess you could call in and 'modify' your plan

aznrsx1979 01-16-2011 09:12 PM

I've got a note left in my account for a new retentions plan, it's the $50 unzoned Canada & US plan (unlimited text, sms and voice) and an additional $30 for the Blackberry Value Pack (500mb data, voicemail, caller id, unlimited txt). So with tax, it should still be under $90 which I guess is a pretty good plan. I haven't decided if I'm going to take it yet.

Current Plan ($52 tax incl):
200 min anytime
unlimited evenings & weekends at 5pm
unlimited txt messaging
Blackberry Value Pack

carsncars 02-09-2011 08:30 AM

So I'd negotiated this in September:

$17.50 EPP 200 min/5 pm evenings & weekends
$30.00 iPhone Value Pack CID/Visual VM/unlimited SMS & MMS/500 MB
- $5.00 credit
= $42.50/month

However, the CSR had told me that tethering was included--it wasn't, which I found out last week, so I called in. People make mistakes so I was ready to accept that they couldn't do anything, but they offered this:

$17.50 EPP 200 min/5 pm evenings & weekends
$30.00 6 GB data
$10.00 Value Pack CID/VM/2500 SMS
- $5.00 credit
- $10.00 credit ("renewable")
= $42.50/month

Same price as before, but I lose Visual VM and unlimited SMS/MMS in favour of 6 GB data. I leapt at it because I don't really MMS at all, don't care about voicemail at all, and don't send more than 1000-1500 texts/month.

My only concern is the "renewable" $10 credit. He said it would expire in a year, but that I could call in just before then to get it renewed ("guaranteed"). Does this sound fishy at all?

I have his name and the transaction number and told him to note that it would be renewable, but I'm not sure why they can't add it as a 3-year credit like my $5 credit..?

Just got it yesterday. It wasn't a contract renewal or anything though, just a modification to my current plan.

$42.50 + HST = $47.60 :)

Pretty happy with it. My friend has similar with 1 Gb for $37.50, which i'd love, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Si 02-24-2011 10:50 PM

anyone use the fido MyAccount app on the iphone?
.... its supposed to update the usage within four hours... but it takes days for me sometimes, so i end up going over with my texts
100texts over =$15.00....... and as of March16th, extra texts will be $0.20/each

RevRav 02-24-2011 11:03 PM

What's the cheapest retention plan available?
Other than the $10 one that does not include anything.

Si 02-26-2011 06:41 PM

I think it's the 17.50 one.... i forgot the details

called in yesterday to change my plan..

old:
200 anytime
unlimited Eve/Wknd
2500txt
unlimited fido-to-fido
$7VM credited back
--
$25
+ $7CID and $10flex-data = $42 + tax

new:
200 anytime
1000 eve/wknd
unlimited incoming
unlimited text
CID
--
$35
+ $10flex-data = $45 + tax

There is a long distance option that falls under their promo so they should be able to credit that to you for some amount of time (like 3 years).

Its 100 long distance minutes but some people have gotten up to 1000 credited to their accounts.

The general retention play for the EPP (17.50) should do fit your needs adequately along with the CID, VD package.

Mizter 03-04-2011 03:56 PM

You have to be with Fido for 3 months in order to qualify for retention plans right?

I would imagine you would need to be at least a year half or more into a 3 year contract before you're eligible.

Mizter 03-05-2011 07:14 AM

But if I'm not on a contract? I switched to Fido for the unlimited plan they had awhile back. I would like to negotiate some sort of Canada LD and flex data onto my plan. Thanks.

So are/were you on pay as you go plans (monthly plans) or were you on a 3-year plan that has expired?

If it is the latter, you can probably negotiate something but if it is a pay as you go plan, I'm not sure if you'll have much leverage.

I'm more of the former. I actually signed up in early February but I decided not to sign a contract so I could have some flexibility.

crazyazn 03-05-2011 10:14 PM

I negotiated this plan a while back:

$17.50 retention + $10 CID/VM + $10 100mb flex-data - $7/month credit (expires <1yr)

Is this pretty much the best I can do? I kinda want more data, but don't want to pay much more.

Back years ago I was on a fido plan without contract just like you. After about 2 years I called in and got through to retentions.
I was able to get a retention plan no problem. Problem though is to get the retention plan, you're going to need to be put on a contract.

Yea, I realize that I would probably have to be put onto a contract if I'm on a retention plan. I'm not against signing a contract if the right plan comes along.

Thanks for your help!

Just remember, everyone starts out with a decent retention plan. You just need to build on it over the years. No one starts out with a kick ass plan, you just have to work at it to make it really good.

I remember my first plan was the default 20 dollar plan that was:

150 daytime
Unlimited evenings/weekends (8PM to 8AM)
Caller ID, Voicemail

That was basically it. I think I may have had 50 text messages? But that was it then you added SAF + 911 which was an extra 7 dollars that resulted in a 30 dollar bill.

Now I have:
350 daytime
Unlimited evenings/weekends (6PM to 7AM)
Call ID/Name Display, Voicemail
2500 Texts
Rogers to rogers

All for 22 or 23 dollars with tax and fees.

Point is that you need to play the game to get better at it.

flex data means that regardless of how much you use, you'll be paying 10$ for 100mb, if say you go over and use 101mb, then you pay 15 (up to 150mb i believe) and so on so forth. it's actually not that bad. unless you were going to tether, stream and youtube and what not, i dont see any reason to "want more data"

Greenstoner 03-08-2011 12:53 PM

ok im on retention as we speak

3 yrs contract iphone (fido will mail me the Iphone and will be delivered 3-7 businese day) Avoid the hassel of going into apple

$50 + tax

-200 weekday min
-unlimt even/weekend
-500mb data
-fido to fido
-2500 txt msg
-iphone valvue pack

This is the lowest i can get due to their new policy that $50 monthly plan is mandatory on all iphone, so i basically got the lowest plan. I should be happy ?? lol
