Some months I'm pretty close to the 100mb limit...I could easily go over if I wasn't so stringent on the data usage.

I kinda want to switch to another carrier though, since my phone won't work 3G with fido...

fuck I nevered checked the details of my charges but apparently I've been charged 13 dollars for the last few months for some scam called Jamster.

I just called fido today and asked them about possibly cancelling my contract early and switching over to wind. They told me the whole "crappy reception" and bad stuff about wind which i am aware they were gonna say. Then i was told it would be $460 plus 30 days to bail out of the contract. Now my question, is it worth paying the cancellation charge and moving over to wind? My plan is currently the $80 unlimited everything and 6gb data.

How many months is there remaining in your contract?

To make it worth while....your contract should be at least 1 year ish. It will take you at least your first 10 months at Wind, for you to recover your $460 cost.

my contract ends in april of 2013

Since it will take you 30 days, or so claim by Fido. Think of it appx as:
April 2011 -> April 2013: Appx 24 months. A similar plan wind will probably cost you $50.40 ($45+tax)

24m X $80 = $1920
24m X $50.4 = $1209.60
minus $460 cancellation fee
= $250.40 saved

Negotiated a retention plan like 2 weeks ago and just got my iphone at the door today. I called them and say I wanna return it coz not satisfied with the data they gave me (500mb)
She then said she gonna upgrade me straight to 6gb at the same charge

Wind has the Unbreakable40 right now, which is the $45 plan, but $40 instead.

(here is the story, i recived my iphone at the door today. Called and told them i wasnt happy with my retention plan that they gave me and now i want to return the iphone. I left the phone unopen just in case. She basically asked me why didnt i satisfied and i told her the amount i will be paying doesnt include enough data. She told me the best she can do is upsize my data plan and keep the monthly payment as it is. I was thinking i will be happy for 1GB or even 2GB if lucky. But she offered 6GB straight up.. its an offer i couldnt say no lol)

i did a small search on fido website before i called today. it only showed 5GB as max...

I wasnt sure why she gave me the 6GB

here is a my estimate invoice for the coming month. I believe all i have to pay is around $170 which includes (Iphone hardware charges & monthly fee $50 minus my fido dollar i used to have for the phone upgrade)

It's not on the website. It's in store, and has been on radio ads.

6 GB is available on and off through as a promotion, and consistently through Retentions. 1 GB is no cheaper for them to add than 6 GB. You got a pretty decent plan in terms of new 2011 guidelines... 6 GB = tethering :)

I just got off the line with fido about some other things, but every time I call, I mention the 6gb data option
1st time (making the contract): i was given a single chance to take it. I didn't
2nd time: for being a good customer, we'll give you the chance this one time
3rd time: we'll leave the option on your account so you can add it at any time you like. :fullofwin: I was denied the option-on-account every time before

I'll be adding it in 2 months.... until then, I'm in a wifi zone every where i go with my ipad

The CSR mentioned that the promotion usually comes around when a new smartphone comes out - esp the iphones

going to korea and planning to keep the phone on. will not be used for data. just for emergency phone calls and the occasional text back to vancouver or in korea.

will i get charged for roaming? or will i only get charged for texting overseas?

you will not get roaming charges if you don't use it. when you use it to text back to vancouver or IN korea, you will be charged roaming text fees

Always check your statements. At the bottom of it, they should list a contact number for that third party charge so that you can call and cancel their "service".
My buddy is going through that same problem right now. Wife kept paying bills without looking at them until one day he looked and saw that they were being charged around $40 extra a month for the last year for third party charges.

my phone is unlocked, what if i switchd the network from fido to some korean one?

Just got off the phone with fido, i called and ask about the 6gb add on and they said its for "special customers" which i assume means everyone who asks. 30 dollars for 6gb, cant go wrong

If you dont mind me asking what is the retention number? and when is the earliest you can call them about a retention plan?
