current plan:

200 anytime mins
2500 text
unlimited evenings 5pm/weekends
fido to fido
fido to rogers
call display
voice mail

$36.40 after taxes, contract expires Nov 2011.

i just picked up a blackberry outside of Fido and i'm looking to add data while keeping this under $50. is the $10/100mb add on my only option? :(

I have a similar voice plan to you but I got them to knock it down to $28/month. I also recently added data to it when I called in and spoke to rep. If you don't want to pay too much and just want some data, you should get them to offer you a retention flex data plan.
The rates that I got were:

0-100MB ----> $10/month
100-150MB --> $15/month
150-500MB --> $20/month
500MB-1GB --> $25/month

At first he kept pushing a flat fee of $25 for 500MB on me. Then I told asked if he can offer me something better since I've been a longtime customer and I may not be using data that much.
Great plan for me since I rarely use that much data but yet I have the flexibility if I need to use more plus I keep my bill < $50/month everything included.

I signed my plan in November.. that's why my plan can be under $50. :fuckyea:

i signed in 2008 of october :fuckyea: time to call retentions :fuckyea:

my plan expires on the 17th and i have not received any calls from them. kinda weird lol...

edit:
my current plan is $17.50
200 mins
evenings start 5pm
$10 unlimited text
911 fee $0.75
saf $6.95

which totals to $40.54 after hst....i want to add atleast 500-1gb data and caller id..hope they can give me all that and stay within 40 bucks lol if not im jumping to mobilicity

spoon.ek9 10-07-2011 02:37 PM

i still have another bone to pick with them regarding a case of fraud one of their employees committed on my account. hopefully i can get something big out of this.

FYI I just found out today that this retention FLEX plan adds an additional 3 years to the contract... I signed up for it a few months ago but FML I really wanted to make the switch to mobilicity.

FYI#2, in between all those 'limits' its 5 cents a MB

Really? I've only ever been billed in those $5 increments. Maybe it's 5 cents per MB over 1GB?

As far as I can tell, my contract is still the same length as before I added this, and I can cancel the flex data whenever I want. They did not extend my contract (according to my account page on Fido website) and I'm still due on the same date as my original 3 year term.

Hmm, I've never been charged 5c/MB. As far as I know, that charge is only if you go over the maximum in the flex data plan (1GB for me). I've been using this plan for 2 months now and I always check my bill for little charges.

edit: I just checked my bill again from last month and I used 139.60MB which led to a $15 charge. So I think the limits I specified above are correct (in my case anyways).

R5x 10-08-2011 03:23 PM

Just a heads up to you guys. Thanks to this thread, I started looking at my agreement length in detail again and I noticed that it HAS changed recently within the last 3 months although I'm not sure why.

My previous agreements were these that I made note of myself:
Dec 2007 - 2 year contract
Sept 2009 -3 year contract (theoretically due in Sept 2012)

According to the website, my agreement now said Dec 2010-2013 therefore extending me for an additional year over what my own records show.

I called in to the rep and he kept insisting that I had it wrong and that my 2007 agreement was for 3 years and that since I renewed in 2009 again for 3 years, the second contract begins once the 1st one ends (therefore that is how they got their 2010-2013 number).

He then proceeded to ask me for proof that my 2007 agreement was for only 2 years and seemed very annoyed that I was questioning something that is clearly correct in their system. After arguing for about 10 mins, I saw that it was going no where so I asked him to put me through to someone that can do something about this. After putting me on hold for 5 mins for his "manager", he came back and apologized and said someone made a mistake in their system and that I was right and that my agreement now expires in 2012 again, which I confirmed by looking at website now.

So the lesson is: ALWAYS get some type of WRITTEN confirmation of a new agreement that you have with them. If you accept something verbally over the phone with the rep, make sure they send you written confirmation of what you agreed on and the duration of your contract. Never assume they got it right in their system and if any dispute arises you need some hard evidence or it becomes your word against theirs. Also, check that the agreement length didn't change over time. Something in their computer is messed up or someone is messing around. Same thing happened to my gf's contract which now says Dec 2013-2016 which is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know WTF is happening at Fido but looks like she'll need to call in as well.

josayeee 10-08-2011 04:51 PM

I tried to login to fido and the system was down. Also got my bill 2 days ago and it was $19 and it's normally $53.

iEatClams 10-09-2011 11:00 AM

^ there phone reservatin system is fucking everything up. too many people trying to reserve the iphone i guess??

Don't listen to her. You can easily go over 500mb. Although it's totally enough for just fb, IM chats, and surfing, you still kinda of have to be aware of what you do. Download the fido app to keep track of ur usage.

6gb is MORE than enough. Good thing is that you can do pretty much anything you would normally do on wifi and be fine.

if it's 500mb, $55 isn't so hot.

Groot 10-11-2011 05:53 PM

^ ya! I'm scared I'll go over 500mb lol so thats why I didn't take it yet..gonna call tomorrow to see if I can get $50 for 6gb...is it pushing it? rofl I hope she put both $55 and $50 plan onto my account so I can use that to negotiate again tomorrow.

spoon.ek9 10-11-2011 06:21 PM

Not sure if this still works, but back when my sister was looking for an Iphone4 fido said that she can just go buy one from an apple store or fido store first, and then call back in to switch to a retention plan.

spoon.ek9 10-11-2011 11:56 PM

yeah i'm curious if you can reserve a phone before a rentention plan as well...

Groot 10-12-2011 04:10 PM

wtf i called back again today and they didnt put the $55 plan down and the minutes for $50 was down to 150... tried getting $55 for 6gb and they didnt budge and wanted about $76 dollars? WTF is this fido im pissed. 500mb is like nothing to me and they tried jewing me by taking out the CID/voicemail. He did however tell me that after the iphone launch it could be different deals on friday...
