You need a minimum combined voice+data plan of $50 to sign up for the phone. Immediately after you activate the phone, you can remove the data for $200. So you keep your old voice plan. You're paying a bit more for the phone.. but it's still about half of what you would pay if you were to buy it straight up.

spoon.ek9 10-20-2011 11:08 AM

if you do that math, you actually save money by cancelling the data portion.

$25 (data) x 12 months x 12% HST = $336

$336 - $200 = $136 savings

fuuu i better get off my ass and call retentions.

Shorn 10-20-2011 12:28 PM

200 daytime mins
unlimited incoming
unlimited evenings starting at 5
caller id
unlimited texts worldwide

for $33.. plus flex data. so $43 if i don't go over 100 mb.

should i take it?

Ronin 10-20-2011 12:59 PM

How long did it take you guys to get through? Long ass hold time?
Posted via RS Mobile

Shorn 10-20-2011 01:26 PM

nah almost nonexistent hold time

yeppi 10-22-2011 01:15 PM

which number did you call? retention or *611?

yeppi 10-25-2011 03:55 PM

My contract expires December 2011 and currently on a retention plan. Do I have to call fido retention before the contract expires to get a better retention deal? I want to get the iphone but I want the iphone that will most likely come out next year. Can I continue using my existing retention plan without a contract pass december and call retention to extend my contract for another 2-3 years with the new iphone? What happens to my plan when my contract expires? If I renew my contract after its due date, is it still called "renewing" my existing plan?

It really depends on how your credits are broken down.

If you have credits that do not expire, then you should be golden as nothing should change.

However, the way that most contracts are given out, there is a mix of credits for options and monthly discounts. The credits for options typically expire and they expire when your contract ends. If this is the case, you'll notice your bill go up depending on how many of those you have.

You can keep using your plan but I highly doubt it will be for the same price. When you renew your contract, you don't have to do an HUP (hardware upgrade). Thus, you'll just stick with your retention plan and you can get the iphone 5 or whatever whenever it releases.

yeppi 10-25-2011 04:13 PM

So if i call them up and renew my contract without doing a HUP, how can I get the iphone 5 for a cheaper price later next year? Do I have to sign up another contract (another 3 years) just to get the iphone 5 at a subsidized price?

Yes to both your questions.

Was really hoping to get atodac's plan that he posted back in August... the $17.50 one. Sounds like they don't offer it anymore.
Just called in now and was offered:

200 anytime minutes
Unlimited E/W at 5pm
Unlimited international SMS
Call Display/Name display
$33

My current:
200 anytime minutes
1000 E/W at 7pm
Unlimited incoming
Call Display/Name display
$25
Unlimited national SMS
$10
Total: $35

I have the $10 flex-data on top of both of those. (Option for $30 6GB noted on account.)

Essentially, I save $2 while getting 5pm instead of 7pm E/W, and international instead of national SMS. Two things I can easily do without. I was really looking to pay less instead. The rep told me that there's a new rule stipulating that all voice plans with an unlimited option on anything must be at least $25. I had never heard of it before.

I asked him to keep the plan as a note on my account and I'll call in another day to confirm. I need to call tomorrow, though. My billing cycle ends on the 28th and I want it done before that.

athiam 10-26-2011 06:42 PM

anyone wants to takeover my iPhone plan? it is under fido

My plan will end at June 2012. so this is my plan

$17.50 200/unlim early evening
$10 voicemail + caller display/ name display + 2500 text messages
$10 (100mb data).

Right now my monthly bill is $42/month after tax and this is under Fido

If you want to change your dataplan:
101-500mb $15
151-500mb $20
501-1000mb $25

spoon.ek9 10-27-2011 11:14 AM

ok! i stopped being a lazy ass motherfucker and called retentions.

1st rep: had me on hold for about 5mins and instantly transferred me to another rep with no offer

2nd rep: asked me what i was looking for and i said i saw your guys' plans and wanted something similar. this guy tells me they can't do it and i said i'm looking at current retention plans that others have received recently. he transfers me to another rep.

3rd rep: offers me this deal after discussing what my needs are

250 daytime mins
unlimited evenings/weekends @5pm
unlimited incoming calls
unlimited international text
unlimited picture/video messaging
500mb data
caller ID
visual voice mail
"who called?" option

$50/month on a 3yr contract

i've written down the ref# and will think about the offer although i'm quite sure i'll take it.

right now, i'm just debating on which ip4s to get: 16gb or 32gb? i'm being told a 16gb sells a lot faster.

stuff99 10-27-2011 11:15 AM

Called in the other day and got my friend the following:

200 Weekday minutes.
Unlimited after 5 p.m. and weekends
Unlimited incoming
VVM, CD
Unlimited texting
500MB

$55 +taxes. Pretty standard I guess right?

I have basically that plan but for 47.50 with no credits. Instead of unlimited incoming I have unlimited Fido-Fido/Fido-Rogers and unlimited MMS

Durrann 10-27-2011 01:10 PM

fido doesnt have the 6GB data promo anymore?

Simplex123 10-27-2011 01:24 PM

^ I'm not sure about right now, but I was offered it through retentions a few weeks ago.

spoon.ek9 10-27-2011 08:02 PM

so what are you guys' opinions on the plan i was offered? yay or nay?

Groot 10-27-2011 08:51 PM

^better then mines lol. i got 200 mins, 1000min e/w@5, and no unlim international texts. rest are the same. if you feel the need for more gb or have alot of fido dollars, opt for 32gb lol

SiRV 10-27-2011 08:54 PM

^you can probably squeeze out some more data for that cost..

spoon.ek9 10-27-2011 08:57 PM

well, for sure i don't need the who called option. i could live without voicemail. maybe push for 1gb?

i only have $59 fido dollars :(

dyan 10-27-2011 09:12 PM

if you're going to keep your bb spoon, 500mb is plenty.

spoon.ek9 10-28-2011 12:46 AM

that's the thing. i'm not sure which phone i'm gonna keep haha. fuuu 1st world problems..

dyan 10-28-2011 12:48 AM

well.. if you decide to keep your ip4s, you can try asking them to change your 500mb data --> 6gb for extra $5.
