Hey guys, I just got out of a 3 year contract with Fido yesterday and I'm not sure what would be the next best step to take. I have a Galaxy Nexus atm. It runs fine and I have no problems with it. However, should I take advantage of the fact that I can get a subsidized phone now but at the cost of being on another contract? I was thinking a 2 year $25 plan + $0 Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. I know if I re-sign, the plan would be a bit different because they just revamped them all yesterday but it's still within the range of features that fits my needs. Plus right now they are giving 50% off 6 months and the first month free. I don't know if that works out to be a total of $100 off or $87.5.

For about half a year I had the $25 for 2GB of data add-on but since I'm always around Wi-Fi at school, albeit whacky and unstable, I decided I could live without it and I'd rather have a low and minimal phone bill instead. After all, I'm a starving student.

I also don't really have the option of Wind because I go to school at SFU and I'm very skeptical about the reception there. As for Mobilicity, I know they recently just set up a site there but I'm still not certain it's going to be better than my current Fido reception.

Current:

Unlimited text, picture, and video messages
150 minutes
Unlimited E/W (starting from 5pm -7am)
Caller ID
Voicemail (3)

$24 + HST (old $25 plan + $6 call display/mini voicemail - $7 retention credit (good til September 2013))

New:

Unlimited text, picture, and video messages
100 minutes
Unlimited E/W (starting from 6pm -7am)
Caller ID
Voicemail (3)

$25 + HST

I'm going to be losing 50 daytime minutes and 1 hour of E/W calls. Neither of these really affect me because honestly I rarely ever make phone calls. My usage over the past 5 months has been an average of 60 daytime minutes/month. I'd also be paying $1 more but I get a free phone.

TIA!

You can probably get discounts on that new $25 plan.

During the holidays, my friend got a $5 discount and bonus 50 mins with the $25 Holiday Promo Plan that has:

150 + 50 bonus weekday including canada-wide
Unlim messaging (text, pic, vid) to canada and international
Unlim after 5 and weekends including canada-wide
call display, mini voicemail

The new plans are not as good as this one, so getting a bonus 50 mins and $5 discount should to do-able with the new plans

I was offered this or $50 for unlimited minutes canada wide and 2GB data. everything else is the same as yours.

Basically its a choice of the $50 or $60 plan with a $10 credit. I got this after 4 months with Fido. $10 credit good until end of my contract. I guess its alright.

shenmecar 05-10-2013 07:28 PM

this isn't a retention plan but thought i would share it for anyone who wants to open up a second line.

found this on hofo: http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...ribers-only%29

$19/month:
200 anytime minutes - billed per minute
Unlimited evenings (6pm to 7am) and weekends (Friday 6pm to Monday 7am)
Unlimited Canada-wide Long Distance
Call Display
Mini Voicemail
Circle Calling
Unlimited Text messaging (SMS)/Video and picture messaging (MMS) from Canada to Canadian & international numbers

again, this is only for NEW (second) line activation on the same account. NOT for existing lines

This is NOT available in stores, you must call Fido to activate a new line on this price plan.

knight604 05-10-2013 08:24 PM

Thats pretty good

Stormspirit 05-10-2013 10:14 PM

Just renewed my 3 year contract with fido for the s4.

This is what they gave me for 45 + tax:

200 mins
Unlimited evening weekends
Call display
voice mail
6gb data

1 month free
2 months after 50% off
$100 toward s4 purchase

So essentially + my fido dollars of $100, im only paying like 20 bucks for the phone.

For comparison, I just got:

Unlimited Canada-wide calling
Unlimited text + video + picture msg
2 GB of data
basic call display + mini voicemail

$50

I used to pay $56 for your plan but with 2GB. I called for a better deal and was offered my current plan for $50, better to just save $6 a month and get rid of name display, visual voicemail, whocalled and call forwarding. These features are useless to me. I'm happy with the basic call display + mini voicemail.

Durrann 05-14-2013 02:07 PM

Unlimited text ?

old phone broke down before 3 yr contract ends (dec 2013) so had to pay $700 for S4 fido store
called in to customer service, the guy was a total dick and couldn't give me anything I nagged so he transfered me to retentions (customer relations)
super nice and understanding guy, signed a 2 yr tab (new contract that is effective now not dec)

new plan: $34/month
450 day mins, unltd nights, weekends start @ 6pm
600 MB data (enough since I use wifi a lot)
canada wide calling, v/m caller id, call display
waived upgrade fee and early cancellation fee
1st month free
credit me $250 so the phone is now $450

not bad deal considering my first call to retentions and my 3rd contract with fido

Mr.HappySilp 06-12-2013 07:06 PM

Unlimited incoming and outgoing calls
Unlimited Canada-wide long distance
Unlimited text, picture and video messages from Canada to Canadian, U.S. and international wireless numbers
2 GB of data
Call Display with Name Display and WhoCalled
2,500 Call Forwarding Minutes + Visual Voicemail
I was paying $56 plus tax call and got offer $45 for 6 months and then it goes up to $52 after. My plan was very decent to begin with so can't really argue too much about it.

hongy 06-12-2013 07:13 PM

Have they implemented anything in regards to how far into your contract before you can call in? I'm giving my parents my plan and signing a new one in hopes that I could call in soon afterwards. A friend of a friend called in 2 months into their contract and was able to get it lowered but this was about 2 years ago.

About 3 months or so you should be able to call in. However, the longer you been a customer the better chance of you getting a better deal. It also depends on a few things as well like how often you call them, do you pay your bill on time etc etc......

Been a customer for 6+ years, however that was under my moms name, this time I will be starting a new account under my own name.

EX-R 06-21-2013 05:52 PM

so I just called fido and I was told that early hardware upgrades got changed to 1 month prior to the end of your contract as oppose to the previous 6 months. I was suppose to do a hardware upgrade next week but now I have to wait till nov. anyone know what I can say to possibly get an earlier hardware upgrade?

Ruff Ryd@s 06-21-2013 08:08 PM

im thinking of cancelling my fido account and switching to another carrier..

I've been with fido under a joint account contract for about 10 years, then switched the account under my personal name for about a year, then after contract ended, i've been paying monthly for services which were the same as when i was under contract

im currently in a dispute with my april 2013 bill, but paid off my may 2013 bill.. their accounts department has been calling my cell and home number non stop, multiple times a day, looking for payment, even after i told them im still in dispute regarding the charges.

What should i expect from retentions if i call them up and say im cancelling my service month end? (I will be paying off my full account balance before i call)
