Cityfone? Those are pretty shitty plans. Seriously I wouldn't even consider anything that doesn't have at least the 6GB data plan. That would be an absolute dealbreaker for me. Phones are pointless without data and 1GB is tiny. |
i only grabbed the voice only plans. Wifi is everywhere (especially shaw) plus i don't live/die/bitch-about because i don't have an internet connection everywhere, everytime. i have a life outside the phone |
^^ that's what people with no data always say LOL! haha j/p |
i couldnt live without data, and i always laugh at people asking for wifi passwords juss sayin |
Me too. We all have lives outside our phones but having data on your phone is so convenient, you just can't go back. It's like a typewriter compared to a laptop. Like still having dial-up 10 years ago. The first question everyone always asks when someone has to search for Wi-Fi is "Why don't you have data?" One of your friends wants to Whatsapp you? Need to find a Lebanese restaurant nearby? Maybe you just want to know how old Helen Mirren is to settle a bet? With data, you have the entirety of human knowledge and history as well as instant location data and information wherever you are. Without data, you have a phone which has been the same since the 80s. |
sure it's like the typewriter...exaggerate much? i still keep my head up when walking down the street and actually talk to people face to face. who the fuark cares how old helen mirren is. I don't have the itch to look at the phone every few seconds/minutes. i don't look like an idiot who holds several bags on one hand and the phone on the other. I don't talk to someone while saying "uh huh" and discretely texting someone else... as you can see i could go on and on as well looking at it from the other perspective. i don't care if i ask for wifi passwords and people laugh...if you do then now that's just being stuck up. As i mention i have a life outside the phone and i like it that way. you guys like your data and i'm fine with that but this two sides of the coin should just stop. BTW It doesn't seem that you read my whole post about cityfone. |

When I was in China a week ago, I have no data on my phone (didn't get any cell phone plan) so mostly rely on WiFi which seems to be norm there. Even people who have data on their phone, the first thing they ask at any restaurant, hotel, karoake etc etc is for WiFi. One of reason for that is because their data is slow. We are talking about 2g mostly and sometimes 3g so it make sense to use WiFi. To be honest I though I would crazy before my trip since I am so attach to the Internet in general (Weather is surfing on my phone or ipad watching Netflix). But I did just fine with very limited Internet access. So it turns out we don't really need Internet access all the time. |

actually giving someone a call directly is much MUCH easier than using other alternatives (apps and such)...old methods seem to still work very well |

FWIW, I just called Fido threatening to leave based on an offer from Bell via the large company I work for. My current plan (subsidizing an iPhone 6 bought Jan/15) City Fido Multi-Zone: $35.00 2gb Data: $35.00 Unlimited Canadian LD: $12.00 iPhone Value Pack (Visual Voicemail, Caller ID, blah blah): $12.00 Total cost: $94.00 I told them the comparable offer via corporate is 4gb/Unlimited Canada Wide calling/comparable features for $60.00 Their response basically was there is no way in hell they can get anywhere near that. My new plan: Unlimited Voice (to/from anywhere in Canada) 4gb Data Spotify iPhone Feature Pack (incl Visual Voicemail) Cost: $90.00 / month Subsidy: -$10.00 / month Total Cost: $80.00 / month for 6 months, will renegotiate at that time. It's not nearly what Ronin claimed to receive and from this guy's tone, I believe quite strongly there is no way he could get there. Maybe things would be different with BYOD but definitely did not seem possible with a subsidized phone. It's not cheap, but it's more than I will ever need so I am okay with this offer and will beat them up after 6 months to see what can be done at that time. Hope this datapoint is helpful. |
got $20 credit on my bill. Got charge for romaning but after I contact fido they knock off $200 off my bill. Wasn't too much hassle at all. |

And there was another -$75.00 credit on my next bill. |
The hardware upgrade was an LG G3, BTW, not an iPhone or a Galaxy S5, which I don't think they would've given me free but they did waive any charges so I didn't even have to spend the ~$100 Fido dollars I accumulated. However, the guy said when I renew again in 2 years, my current plan will let me get an iPhone hardware upgrade. |
Ronin, is that through the retentions dept? |
I dialled 611, said I want to talk about renewing and 15 seconds later someone was on to help me. Never mentioned retentions. Got people that spoke proper English, though...not some outsourced call center. |
