I just signed on with Fido again... and all i'm paying is $40 (cityfido) plus tax. but it also includes caller display/2500txt/voicemail

i'm debating if i should get a BB. i really like the onyx(bb 9700) but only rogers & telus & bell is offering it. i think there is only 2 approach to this

1) buy the phone unlock
2) leave my cityfido and sign onto rogers and get the bb onyx

what should i do?????

you should call again. I called the Rogers retention line yesterday and spoke to the CS rep for an hour and this is what i got.

I called in to see what I could get and all I got was a punch in the face. I have the old city fido, unlimited anytime for $40 + $11 valuepack calldisplay,name display, enhanced voicemail, 250 txt(no SAF, they call it credited to my account. because of a 1month phone fight I had with customer server when they were terminating city fido sooo many years ago) they tell me if I want to get a phone upgrade at an agreement price I would have to start paying the $6.95 SAF.. WTF!?! I ask them what happens if I cancel? They dont give a shit. not so many options other than just renewing. thinking about grabbing the T715 and getting the unlimited browsing added on since the current Data plans are a rip.

If I wanted to get an Iphone I need a data plan min $25 + 6.95SAF my bill would go upto $83 from what I'm currently paying after tax of $58

Call again, and just say you saw an offer from Rogers you would like to sign up for and that you would like to cancel. They'll most likely send to retentions and negotiate there. You probably either talked to an asshole or you didn't sound sincere when you wanted to cancel.
I had the same plan as you, but I opted out for a new retentions plan.
I asked about keeping my cityfido and data etc. and it IS possible to get an iphone without paying SAF and WITH the 3yr agreement price [$499 without 3 yr data agreement i think]

You could try:
$40 CF
$10 loyalty bundle [CID, VM, 2500 txt]
$20 for 500mb

if not, you can try to get my plan:

$17.50 - 200min, unlim Evn/Wknd @5PM
$10.00 - 200min
-$10.00- credit for extra 200min
$10.00 - Unlim Rogers<-->Fido

$10.00- Loyalty bundle [CID, VM, 2500txt]

total: $55 with tax, no SAF [they added $2.50 somewhere because they can't credit an amount more than the actually voice plan] with an iphone

Buddy, you misunderstood me.

and I use to work in a call center, so I obviously know being a prick won't work.

The normal customer service rep however doesn't have any power to offer you any sort of retention plan. They can pretty much just offer you what's on the site, with very little leeway. If they determine you ARE sincere in that you wish to cancel or that the account is in risk of being lost to a competitor, they will transfer you to another department with reps trained to negotiate a plan that'll make you stay with their company.

Nah, you have to tell them you are quitting or you won't get the special transfer to the "loyalty department". I tried the nice guy routine first saying how their competitors had better offers and asked them to match it. The counter-offer they gave me was $73 for the plan I wanted and that was the "best they can do", a few calls later with the threat of me cancelling I got transfered to loyalty and got the exact same plan for $48.

The rep said if i stick with the iphone and dont give it away the plan I can opt for the 6 gb for the same price. If i go BB ill get the BB plan and 500 data.

Why would Fido give out good plans to people that are on monthly's that cannot be tied up? It doesn't make any sense. Especially since you've only been with them for 3 months.

I have been with Rogers since they were Cantel. I have been thinking about going to Fido and possibly with an iPhone. How did you negotiate your plan? I have already cancelled Rogers, BTW. I was at a Fido store and adding up a similar package to yours, it came to more like $75 (but only 350 min, 500MB data add on, 5pm eve, call disp/voice disp).

I kept 2 things in mind when I call retentions:
1. They deal with people complaining all day and threatening to quit if they don't get a better deal.

2. They can't give you everything you ask for. On their computer they have options that may or may not be available depending on the month AND the customer. Therefore, they have limited control over what they can give you.


Having that in mind, I call in and am polite. I tell them what I have now, what I'd like to have added on or taken away. I don't threaten to leave, since that is a form of aggression and actually works against you.

I have to say the same thing: having worked at the Telus Mobility Call center before, I wouldn't automatically have sent you to the Retention Queue. The calls are recorded for Q/A and if a customer didn't have the criteria to be sent to the Retention Queue and they were sent there, it works against the CSR on the phone. L&R is supposed to be the last resort to prevent a customer from CHURNing, not a dumping ground for clients that CRS's don't want to deal with. What you SHOULD do, if you REALLY want to talk to L&R, is to say that you have already spoken to L&R, that you were told to call back and bypass the normal queue, and that you want a direct transfer to L&R and don't need a warm transfer. When the CSR says your account doesn't have any notes pertaining to this, tell them that you just got off the phone with them about 5 mins ago, and the L&R person probably hasn't had time to put the notes in.
